Canada's immigration minister, Marc Miller, said that from September this year, international students will be able to work off-campus for up to 24 hours a week, which is the latest statement of Immigration Canada's policy on international students.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Liberal government reportedly lifted the 20-hour cap for international students to ease the labor shortage. However, this exemption expires tomorrow.

After expiration, the limit on working hours for international students will revert to 20 hours per week until September, when the government can implement a permanent change to 24 hours per week.

There is no limit to the number of hours international students can work during the summer and winter holidays when the school is closed.

For international students, the time and experience they have worked in school are also important for their future job search, and in some cases, they can even affect the final immigration problem.

Just graduated, no experience, no drama at all!

The New Democratic Party government in Manitoba, Canada, has been widely criticized for its handling of the Provincial Nominee Program after a recent draw excluded some recent international students, according to CBC News.

The province regularly selects people who participate in the Provincial Nominee Program from applications, and then includes a certain number of selected applicants in the province's immigration program, providing them with permanent residency.

Last week, the Manitoba government government conducted its first draw for international students graduating from designated post-secondary institutions since early February. But the results were a surprise – only those with at least four years of work experience in the last five years would be considered for an invitation.

Sarah Sun, a female student from China, said the draw was narrowing for recent graduates like her.

"I am very frustrated," she said during a protest outside the Manistan Provincial Assembly last Thursday.

"Even though I got a good enough grade in English and also got a job, it was pointless. ”

Sun is worried that she and her family from China will have to leave Canada if they don't get permanent residency.

"I feel a lot of pressure because I have a 10-year-old son who loves Canada. He said he didn't want to be separated from his teachers and classmates. Sun said, holding back tears.

Zhiyu Gu, another Chinese student who also participated in the protest, said he did not shy away from Thursday's protests because he believes rights should be protected.

About 25 people took part in the demonstration on Thursday afternoon.

Although this student from China is not eligible for the Provincial Nominee Program because he has not yet graduated. But he said the news of the province's lottery for people with four years of work experience was shocking!

"All of my classmates were silent when they heard the news......," he said.

He hopes that future draws will benefit international students who choose Manitoba as their first destination.

"We are very uncertain about the government, we don't know what they will do in the future. He said.

But the province said it would hold more draws "in the coming weeks" for international graduates who do not have enough experience but have four years of college education.

Over the past two months, there have been a number of demonstrations in Manitoba against the Provincial Nominee Program.

The government has decided to prioritise skilled workers who already have families in the province, a move the province believes will help Manitoba retain more newcomers while reducing the number of newcomers who are not yet entrenched in the province.
