Analysis report on the operation of the domestic mobile phone market in February: the proportion of 5G mobile phones has increased, and the position of domestic brands has been stable

On March 27, according to the latest data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, in February 2024, the domestic mobile phone market shipments reached 14.257 million units, a decrease of 32.9% from the same period last year. This downward trend reflects the overall downturn in the market, which may be related to factors such as global supply chain issues and declining consumer willingness to buy. However, it is worth noting that despite the overall market decline, the share of 5G mobile phones in the market continues to grow, accounting for 87.9%. This shows that the penetration rate of 5G technology in the domestic market is increasing, and consumer demand for 5G mobile phones is still strong.

In terms of new models, a total of 21 mobile phones were launched in China in February 2024, a decrease of 25.0% from the same period last year. However, 17 of the new models were 5G phones, up 54.5% year-on-year. It can be seen that although the overall number of new models is declining, the proportion of 5G mobile phones is gradually increasing, which shows that manufacturers attach importance to and invest in the 5G market.

Despite the decline in shipments, its position in the market remains solid. This shows the advantage and position of domestic brands in market competition.

Domestic smartphone development: the market share is stable, and the number of new models is declining

Smartphones still maintain a solid position in the domestic market. In February 2024, smartphone shipments accounted for 98.5%, and although it fell by 31.3% year-on-year, it is still the absolute main force of the market. However, it is worth noting that the number of new models decreased slightly, with only 19 new models coming out, a year-on-year decrease of 26.9%. This may reflect the cautious attitude of manufacturers in launching new products, or they may be influenced by market demand and technological developments.
