Sikkim Hydropower Dam crews saw that the dam had been washed away within ten minutes and that the 200-metre-long bridge connecting the power station had been washed away. The entire power plant was submerged in water. The largest dam in Sikkim was completed in 2017 at a cost of about Rs 25,000 crore. This dam is not a gravity dam or an earth dam, it looks like a panel rockfill dam. The safety of panel rockfill dams lies in containment and flood release. If the gate is not opened, the water will not leak over the top of the dam, first washing away the rocks on the back slope of the dam, and then the entire dam will collapse. Flooding in Sikkim has destroyed a large number of buildings, including the Indian Armed Forces and the so-called "Indo-Tibetan Border Police" unit. The floods washed away the largest hydroelectric power station in Sikkim, the Teesta River No. 3 Hydroelectric Power Station dam, destroyed at least 14 bridges and roads, completely damaged drinking water supply pipes and left 23 Indian Armed Forces officers missing. From June to September, the Himalayan mountains where Sikkim is located generally receive heavy rainfall, and natural disasters such as landslides and floods often occur. After the Indian Armed Forces invaded Sikkim, six hydropower plants are currently under construction. At present, the damage to other hydropower stations in Sikkim is not clear. And India's infrastructure is of very poor quality, lacking scientific design and research, and frequent accidents. Sikkim was an independent state annexed by India, the only time after World War II that India annexed an entire sovereign state.
