Growing up, I have always wondered: why did the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which began to tilt during its construction, stand for more than 800 years?

In fact, when the Leaning Tower of Pisa was built in the early days, it was not deliberately tilted.

In 1173, the designers originally intended to build a straight tower. However, when the third floor was built, the tower began to tilt to one side. After the exploration of the relevant personnel, the conclusion was finally reached - the foundation is soft.

Underneath the Leaning Tower of Pisa, its soil is made of soft and clay soils, which are too soft to withstand its weight.

Because of the war, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was stranded for a century. It wasn't until 1272 that engineers rebuilt the old building.

At first, the idea was to move the center of the tower by adding more material in the opposite direction of the tower, but after construction, the engineers found that this solution simply did not work.

In desperation, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was shelved for another century. It was not until 1372 that the Leaning Tower of Pisa was completed. But this tower was a troublemaker from the start.

In 1838, engineers excavated the base of the tower to try to find out the problem, and as a result, the tower was even more inclined. In 1935, they tried to fill the base with mortar, but the tower tilted again.

Finally, in the 90s of the 20th century, the engineers made up their minds and came to an unprecedented "big move". They first tried to balance the tower with 600 tons of lead, and then dug up one side of the soil, so that the sloping building can still "stand" today!

Through this special design, the Leaning Tower of Pisa has managed to withstand 850 years of natural and natural disasters. Nowadays it has become a special architectural treasure, and it is the greatest miracle in the history of human architecture!
