As the champion of new energy vehicle sales, BYD has recently been on the cusp of the "air pollution incident", and the BYD Yuhua District factory in Changsha has been accused of exceeding the emission standard. On May 9, Nandu reporters learned from multiple sources that BYD's Yuhua District factory has been stopped for rectification. The staff of Longting Community in Dongjing Street, Yuhua District, Changsha City, told Nandu reporters that the factory involved had begun to stop work on the 8th, and it also stopped production during the day, and was fully investigated and waited for the results of the investigation. In recent months, BYD's production and sales have risen against the trend, and some bydir factory employees said that a new production line has been added to expand production recently, and since the resumption of work years later, overtime has been obvious.

The BYD plant, which is accused of emitting pungent gases, has been shut down
On May 9, a number of residents living in the neighborhood near the factory in BYD's Yuhua District told Nandu reporters that yesterday a street worker informed the owner that BYD had stopped work for rectification. "Since last night, I haven't smelled a very pungent smell, and I can finally open the window." Some residents revealed that in the past, the BYD factory was still brightly lit late at night, and the work was stopped at night these days, and the lights in the factory area were turned off, which was a lot darker.
Subsequently, Nandu reporter verified the above information to the Longting community in Dongjing Street, Yuhua District, Changsha City, and the staff said that BYD had stopped production at 20:00 on the evening of May 6. On the evening of the 6th, BYD and residents held a meeting, and BYD said that it would produce during the day, stop production after 20:00 at night, and no longer produce at night. However, residents did not agree with this statement, so BYD started from the 8th and stopped production during the day and was fully investigated. Wait for the results of the investigation to come out and see whether to move away from some factories or continue to improve. ”
In response to the pollution problem of the bydir Yuhua District factory, a number of residents of the nearby community told the Nandu reporter that since March this year, after 18:00 every day, they can obviously smell the suspected paint smell, burnt smell and other irritating odors in the room. The pungent odor can last until three or four o'clock in the morning of the next day, and even some aftertaste can be smelled in the early morning. Hundreds of children in the community have symptoms of nosebleeds, and adults have also experienced nausea, vomiting, coughing and other situations.
During this period, residents repeatedly complained through channels such as municipal hotlines. After April, the Yuhua Branch of Changsha Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment commissioned an inspection agency to conduct testing in the YUHUA factory area of BYD, a total of 3 times, and the test data reached the standard. Some residents questioned the above test data to the Nandu reporter, the testing time is during the day, and the BYD factory generally emits exhaust gases at night. In addition, the specific location of the test is decided by BYD and relevant departments, and the owner is not present and does not know.
Some residents told Nandu reporters that the irritating odor in the past two months may be that BYD is working overtime to catch up with production. An employee of BYD's Yuhua District factory revealed to Nandu reporters that a new production line was recently added to the factory to increase production capacity. After resuming work after this year, the factory overtime situation has become more, originally there were 4 days of vacation a month, in recent months, only one day off each month, and overtime until eight or nine o'clock in the evening. In addition, the factory has also recently recruited a large number of workers, and the old employees recommend new employees to join, which has financial incentives.
Nandu reporter noted that at present, BYD and relevant departments have responded to this matter. On the evening of May 7, BYD's Changsha Yuhua District Industrial Park responded that the park was put into operation in 2012 and that its emissions complied with relevant national regulations and standards. In some residential areas close to the industrial park, or there is a peculiar smell, the company has taken relevant measures to improve. BYD said that the situation of "nosebleeds caused by excessive emissions" on the Internet is a malicious fabrication of the association and has been reported to the police.
On May 8, in response to the public's feedback on the gas emissions of the BYD Yuhua District factory, the Changsha Municipal Party Committee and the Changsha Municipal Government have set up an investigation team to organize government functional departments, third-party testing agencies and relevant experts to enter the BYD Yuhua District factory to investigate.
BYD has laid out industries in many places in Changsha
Plant shutdowns for rectification or pressure on subsequent deliveries
Although it is plagued by negativity, BYD's production and sales this year are booming, and the supply is in short supply. In the past two months, BYD's production and sales have bucked the trend. According to its disclosed production and sales express data, at the production end, BYD produced 106658 vehicles in March, about 5 times the output of the same period last year; the sales volume was 104878 vehicles, which was more than 4 times that of the same period last year. In April, BYD's sales 106042 vehicles, up 134.4% year-on-year and up 1% from March, nearly flat. On the production side, BYD produced 107478 new vehicles in April, up 136% from the same period last year and up 1% month-on-month.
A BYD 4S store salesman told Nandu reporter, "BYD's multiple models have increased prices this year, many customers want to book in advance, one of the best models is the DM-i hybrid model, the supply is in short supply, and the car needs to be queued." ”
Under the prevention and control of the epidemic, BYD can achieve double growth in production and marketing without a complete supply chain layout behind it. According to public information, at present, BYD's four major production bases in Shenzhen, Xi'an, Changsha and Changzhou have been put into operation, while new production bases in Hefei, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Jinan and Xiangyang are also stepping up construction. Taking Changsha as an example, since BYD entered Changsha in 2009, after years of development, Changsha has become one of the most complete new energy vehicle production strategies for BYD after the global headquarters in Shenzhen, integrating passenger cars, commercial vehicles and other product lines, and is also the headquarters base in central China with the most complete industrial chains such as complete vehicles, three electric core technologies and intelligent terminals.
According to public information, BYD has established a comprehensive strategic partnership with Changsha and carried out industrial layout in many places in Changsha, and Changsha BYD is also the first automobile enterprise in Hunan Province with a single factory output value of more than 50 billion yuan. Among them, BYD's vehicle production and manufacturing is in Yuhua District, IGBT project is in Xingsha District, high-end electronic intelligent terminal is in Wangcheng District, and Ningxiang High-tech Zone is also one of BYD's important blade battery production bases.
It is worth noting that BYD has announced that it will stop the production of fuel vehicles from March and will focus on pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the future, which means that the development of new energy vehicles is particularly important to BYD. At present, BYD's Yuhua District plant is the only production base of its DM-i system in the country, which can be adapted to the power system of ALL BYD new energy models. The factory mainly produces Dynasty Net models Qin PLUS DM-i, Song MAX DM-i, Yuan Pro, Ocean Net models Dolphin, Destroyer 05, e2, e3 and other passenger cars, K series, C series pure electric buses, and some core supporting components.
From the perspective of production capacity, the Changsha plant occupies a pivotal position within BYD. According to the Changsha Evening News, in the first quarter of this year, Changsha BYD produced 62,500 cars, an increase of 271% year-on-year. Nandu reporter noted that according to BYD's first-quarter production and sales express, its overall output in the first quarter was 292,000 vehicles. Based on this calculation, BYD's Changsha plant, including the Yuhua District plant, contributed more than 20% of its total current output.
In 2022, BYD 'shouted out' annual sales target of 1.2 million vehicles. At present, BYD is entering a strong cycle of technology and product launch, and it remains to be seen whether the suspension and rectification of some production lines in Changsha BYD factories will have an impact on the next production and sales performance.
As of 11:00 on the 10th, BYD did not make a statement on the suspension of production and rectification, nor did it make any response to whether the rectification of the factory involved would affect the overall delivery process.
After the opening of the market on May 10, as of 10:00, A-share BYD fell more than 4%, and Hong Kong-stock BYD fell more than 10%.
