BYD alarm! The investigation team moved in

BYD (002594. SZ) has also caused some trouble while its sales have soared, and its Changsha plant has recently been involved in the "emission gate".

On May 8, when the first financial reporter asked BYD for verification on the emission issue, BYD said that it would take the company's statement last night.

On May 7, a number of residents of The Yuhua District of Changsha, Hunan Province, spoke out on the Internet, saying that bydy's Changsha Automobile Factory near the residential area emitted exhaust gases and pungent smells, and since April this year, hundreds of children in the community have experienced nosebleeds, and adults have also experienced nausea, vomiting, coughing and other situations.

Last night, BYD's official Weibo released a statement on "Changsha Yuhua District Industrial Park Emissions Lead to Complaints from Surrounding Residents", saying that BYD Changsha Yuhua District Industrial Park was put into operation in 2012, and the park emissions comply with relevant national laws and regulations and standards. In some residential areas close to the industrial park, or there is a peculiar smell, the company has taken relevant measures and actively improved. In response to the situation that "excessive emissions caused nosebleeds", BYD said that this is a malicious fabrication of the association, the company has called the police, and will pursue the legal responsibility of the relevant personnel.

According to the news of "Pocket Changsha" on May 8, in response to the masses' feedback on the gas emissions of the BYD Yuhua District factory, the Changsha Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government have set up an investigation team to organize government functional departments, third-party testing agencies and relevant experts to enter the BYD Yuhua District factory to investigate.

According to the information investigated by the enterprise, Changsha BYD Automobile Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Changsha BYD") was established in 2009, with the legal representative He Zhiqi and a registered capital of 1 billion yuan.

It is understood that Changsha BYD is the first project of BYD Group to lay out the central region, and this subsidiary has 17,000 employees and a cumulative investment of more than 10.7 billion yuan. BYD's Changsha plant, which was first put into operation in 2012, is one of the strategic bases for the production of new energy vehicles with the most complete product line.

In April this year, a number of residents living near the BYD factory in Changsha reported related environmental pollution problems, and said that the hundred children living here had nosebleeds for no reason, which was suspected of being related to Changsha BYD's improper pollution control.

The map shows that BYD's Changsha factory is surrounded by multiple residential quarters and primary schools.

According to an online recording, the relevant staff of BYD's Changsha factory said when negotiating with residents: "The (emissions) in the early stage of the first phase of the project are large, but there are more than 10 billion yuan invested before and after, and it is unrealistic to stop production." The company is making a plan to make a rectification plan in May, trying to alleviate it until you can't experience it. ”

In BYD's official response last night, BYD admitted that there may be odors in the Industrial Park of Changsha Yuhua District, but believes that the situation that "excessive emissions caused nosebleeds" on the Internet is a malicious fabrication.

The first financial reporter checked from the website of Changsha Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment that on January 5 this year, the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a public notice table for the comprehensive improvement of volatile organic compounds of key enterprises, and a total of 28 enterprises were listed, of which serial number 13 was Changsha BYD located in Yuhua District.

The above-mentioned public notice form discloses the details of Changsha BYD's pollutant discharge rectification. The publicity table shows that before the remediation, Changsha BYD's volatile organic compound production (t/a) was 1264.202, the volatile organic compounds organized emissions (t/a) were 708.355, and the volatile organic compounds fugitive emissions (t/a) were 87.381.

According to the rectification requirements, the CHANGSHA BYD plant will be rectified from the source, painting process, recycling and VOCs monitoring. Among them, the rectification measures such as changing the topcoat of passenger cars to water-based paint and the new passenger car coating production line using the medium-coating process are expected to be completed in October this year. This means that as of now, the rectification of volatile organic compound emissions at the BYD plant in Changsha has not yet been completely completed.

As a leading new energy vehicle company, BYD has been promoting the popularization of new energy vehicles, addressing climate change and reducing dependence on oil through technological and product innovation. At present, BYD is entering a strong cycle of technology and products, and its new energy vehicle production and sales still achieved contrarian growth when the domestic automotive industry suffered a major setback in April this year, and the sales volume of the month exceeded 100,000 units again, reaching 106,000 units, an increase of 313.22% year-on-year. From January to April this year, BYD's cumulative sales of new energy vehicles reached 392,400 units, an increase of 387.94% year-on-year. BYD recently announced that according to the needs of strategic development, the company will stop the production of fuel vehicles from March, and will focus on pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the automotive sector in the future. This means that BYD has become the first car company in the world to stop selling fuel vehicles.

However, for car companies, it is difficult to challenge the goal of "carbon neutrality" in the future, and it is not enough to rely on vehicle technology progress alone.

China Automotive Technology and Research Center recently released the 2021 China Automotive Low Carbon Action Plan Research Report. The report is the first to release the life-cycle carbon emissions of passenger cars sold on the mainland last year, including 392 gasoline cars and 112 pure electric vehicles. According to the data, the total carbon emissions of the whole industrial chain of passenger cars in the mainland last year were about 670 million tons of carbon dioxide, of which 74% came from the use link and 26% from the upstream industrial chain manufacturing link.

Only through the linkage of the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain to promote the carbon reduction and decarbonization of the whole industrial chain of the automobile and the whole life cycle of the product can we achieve a truly green transformation.

Changsha BYD's involvement in the "emission gate" this time is considered by the industry to challenge the zero CO emission of new cars, but also needs to make continuous efforts in factory exhaust emissions and other aspects.
