German sports car manufacturer Wiesmann introduces an all-electric sports car with an 800-volt architecture

German sports car manufacturer Wiesmann has introduced an all-electric sports car with an 800-volt architecture, the project name is Thunderball. It's still a concept, but it's intended to go into mass production: interested people can already book the 500 kW sports car. Although it's a pure electric car, the Thunderball is still recognizable as the Wiessmann family model – at the front, the shape of the air intakes and the extra-long hood are reminiscent of fuel-fuel models, which mostly use BMW's V8 engines.

In the Thunderball, the long hood remains, but the engine is no longer installed underneath: the two electric motors mounted on the rear axle transmit up to 500 kW of power and achieve up to 1,100 Nm of torque.

A battery with an energy content of 92 kWh is installed, of which 83 kWh can be used. Wiesmann did not specify the exact installation location or weight of the 800 volt unit. Since Thunderball is primarily made of lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, the total weight should be 1,775 kg. Weight should also ensure low consumption: with a net charge of 83 kWh it should be possible to travel about 500 km. That's at least the value That Wisman is after; the vehicle hasn't been certified under WLTP.

Not only does the Thunderball travel fast (0-100 km/h 2.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h 8.9 seconds), but it also charges quickly. The AC charging power is 22 kW, which is said to be up to 300 kW at the corresponding DC charging station. The battery has its own water cooling system that can be charged quickly even at high ambient temperatures.

The company also highlighted the "typical Wiesmann driving experience," which will also be achieved on electric sports cars. For example, to achieve this, energy recovery can be precisely adjusted via paddle shifters on the steering wheel. A fully adjustable motion suspension with a variable stabilizer should also contribute to this. Under the hood, 180 litres of objects or two carry-on suitcases can be stored, and only the coupe has a 125-litre rear trunk, and in addition to the roadster, there will be a version with a fixed roof.

Production of thunderball will take place at Dülmen. It is said that the basic price of Thunderball is around 300,000 euros. Those who are interested can already book. It is unclear when production will begin.
