BMW fans have always respected the M department, after all, the 3 series should be compatible, and the M department can definitely defend the bottom line of BMW sports. On the other hand, bmw's i brand, which was established 11 years ago, has gradually come to the forefront, conforming to the trend of electrification in the industry. So, how should the i-series models be upgraded? This is an interesting topic. Fortunately, the crystallization of the cooperation between the two sides has come out, it is the BMW i4 M50 performance version, which is the first electric performance car created by the M department. Recently, we took a real photo of this car at the BMW i Shenzhen Happy Harbor store and felt its charm statically.
New car features:
1. Based on the 4 series 5-door version of the "oil to electricity" upgrade, BMW's first pure electric four-door coupe

The BMW i4 is based on the 4 Series Gran Coupe, that is, the "G26" chassis through the "oil to electricity" upgrade, the appearance of the similarity is very high, but the details have changed. In terms of color, there are 6 regular colors of gem blue, ore white, sunset orange, portimant blue, Sanremo green, Brooklyn gray, and 4 personalized color combinations of tourmaline gray, tanzanite blue, aventure red and frosted portimand blue.
The large-size star curtain grille on the front face is not as direct to the end as the M4, and it retains a distance from the bottom lip, which is not so exaggerated in proportion and looks softer. The upper part of the grille in the plate frame is changed to closed, with black concave decoration, the lower part is ventilated, and the silver dot matrix decoration is adopted, and the cross-border style is obvious. The millimeter wave radar module (shown in the red box) is integrated in the lower right, and the concealment is excellent. The prominent marker on the upper right of the grille is marked with an "M" logo, which distinguishes it from the eDrive40 version.
The headlamps are consistent with the 4 series or M4, and the double-half ring angel eye daytime running lamp is still highly recognizable. The high beam is equipped with a laser light source, and its maximum illumination distance is 550 meters, and the eDrive40 model costs 13,600 yuan to install. The large area of ventilation duct under the headlights has a built-in black trim panel that adds a horizontal guide duct decoration, but only the outer vertical opening is actually ventilated, and the LED front fog lights on the 4 series are eliminated here.
The side is very similar to the 4 Series Gran Coupe M Sports Night Suit Edition, the short front overhang, the long rear overhang, the lower body, the streamlined roof and other structures are unchanged, the detail decoration is also very similar, the fish gill air outlet with wind knife under the front fender, the flattened door panel, and the frameless window are also retained, but the charging port is added on the fender, and the M logo does not fall. It is worth saying that the i4 M50 body wind resistance coefficient is 0.25Cd, which is also lower than the 0.26Cd of the 4 Series 5-door version, which we estimate is the progress brought about by the reduction of the front ventilation area and the optimization of the body details.
The body size is 4785/1852/1455mm and the wheelbase is 2856mm. Compared to the 4 Series 5-door version, the length is reduced by 3mm, the height is increased by 3mm, and the rest remains the same. Compared to the Xiaopeng P7, it is a little smaller, but slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3.
The M carbon fiber kit provided by the M department includes an exterior mirror housing with an extended three-dimensional wind knife structure on the top, and the combat style is up in an instant. Integrated side turn lights and side cameras, the latter is also relatively highly integrated, supporting 360-degree panoramic images. Standard electric adjustment, folding, memory, heating, automatic rolldown of reversing, automatic folding of locking car, automatic anti-glare.
BMW's flat door handle is concave, the convenience of use is also good, and the standard is all-car keyless entry.
The front and rear rims are both 19 inches, and the black and silver double-spoke double-spoke harpoon shape is very cool. The front and rear wheels are available in 245/40 R19 and 255/40 R19 respectively, with wider drive tyres and more grip, matching Michelin PS4 series tyres with excellent grip but no track characteristics. The internal brake discs are also relatively large, equipped with M's blue brake calipers, the braking force is greater, and the body weight is increased a lot.
The rear change is not large, the latest 3D stereoscopic taillights are used, and the recognition of pipe-shaped lamps is also relatively high. The bottom diffuser has been optimized, the sides have been changed to carbon fiber panels, and the bottom spoiler size has been increased.
The addition of a two-stage carbon fiber spoiler at the rear of the car and a lower shark fin antenna on the roof reduce the drag coefficient together.
The center console and stop pole platform of the carriage are basically the same as the 4 Series, but provide the same large curved screen as the i3, and the shape of the central air outlet has been changed accordingly. The screen is composed of a combination of 12.3-inch full LCD dashboard and 14.9-inch central control screen, the central control screen is tilted 6° to the driver's side, which is convenient for viewing and touching, and the screen is suspended on the countertop through the rear bracket, and the height and distance are more appropriate.
The M steering wheel is indispensable, the size and thickness are very suitable, and the leather feel is also very delicate. The difference from the 4 Series is that the rear omits the paddle shifters, and the steering wheel heating button is added below the center of the disc. The banner is controlled by large buttons + wheels/levers, making it very easy to use. The left side is used to control the auxiliary system, providing adaptive cruise and lane keeping, and functions such as full-speed adaptive cruise and parallel assist still need to be optional.
The left side of the screen is a 12.3-inch full LCD meter, and the UI style also shows the green, blue and red of the M style, the picture looks very stylish, and the clarity is very high.
The shape of the stop bar table remains unchanged, but the base panel is carbon fiber, and the "little chicken leg" electronic stop bar adds a blue element, and the sense of belonging is very clear. There are still many physical buttons around the barrier, including ESP, assisted imaging, parking radar, one-button start, driving mode, automatic parking, electronic handbrake and iDrive control panel; under the front slide cover there is a double cup holder, 12V power supply, Type-C interface and mobile phone storage compartment with wireless charging.
The central armrest box has a square opening, has a certain depth, is more practical, and has a built-in Type-C interface.
The center console is made of carbon fiber trim panels, the black part is soft glue, the door panel is covered with leather surface, and the material for the carriage is no problem. Embedded with 11-color mood lights as standard, a HARMAN Karton sound with 12 speakers, and frameless doors, there is no shortage of sport and luxury.
This is vernasca leather M sports seat, the black "M" logo on the headrest is very low-key, and the seat shape is very sporty. The shoulder support is integrated with the backrest, the lateral support part seems to be separate, and the horizontal grid that is in contact with the body increases the friction, and it is good to sit up and fix it even if you wear smooth clothing. Still using a reclining sitting posture to reduce the center of gravity, the front of the cushion is higher, and there is a telescopic leg rest, which is very good in support and wrapping, ensuring the stability of the intense driving body. In terms of function, the main passenger seat supports front and rear, backrest, leg rest, height (4-way) and waist (4-way) electric adjustment, and the driver's seat also supports electric memory, and heating requires 3600 yuan of optional equipment.
The rear seats are made the same material as the front, and the seat cushions are sufficiently long, but the backrests are relatively straight and have no lateral support. The space is not generous, Kandi is 175cm tall, a slightly more punch in the leg, only three fingers on the top of the head, and the central platform is relatively high, which affects the leg movement of the central passengers. In terms of configuration, it provides a floor type air outlet, a folding armrest with a double cup holder, and a double Type-C interface.
The hatchback tailgate has a large opening for easy access to large items. The visual volume is comparable to the 4 series 5-door version, the conventional volume 470L is not large, the depth is not bad, the front end width is narrow, mainly due to lack of height. Fortunately, the rear seats support a 4:2:4 ratio of reclining, and the flatness is high, the maximum volume can be extended to 1290L, and the front end height is sufficient to place large items. In terms of power, the official introduction adopts BMW's fifth-generation eDrive system, with a comprehensive power of 400kW (544Ps), a comprehensive torque of up to 795Nm, 0-100km/h acceleration of 3.9 seconds, a speed of 218km/h, acceleration to the level of M4, and the speed is also relatively high in electric vehicles. However, BMW did not announce the specific power of the front and rear motors, but the fifth-generation eDrive system uses a rare excitation motor in the industry, and it is also a three-in-one structure. On the i3 and iX3, the power of the rear motor is 210kW (286Ps), the maximum torque is 400Nm, but on the i4 eDrive40 version, the rear motor power is increased to 250kW, indicating that the BMW light rear motor has at least two power types, and we are not good at saying what kind of motor combination is used in the i4 M50.
Using a ternary lithium battery of 83.9kWh, CLTC has a pure electric endurance of 560km. The fast charging interface is located at the left front fender, and the charging time of 80% of the charge is 0.77 hours; the slow charging is located on the right rear fender, and the charging time is 8.25 hours.
In terms of chassis, the front double ball joint spring damping pillar axle + rear five-link independent suspension combination is adopted, due to the increase in body weight, the curb weight is 2275kg, and the M department has done a lot of reinforcement for the chassis. Specially tuned springs, body stiffening and M braking systems were used. The shock absorbers are adaptively hard and soft, and with a steering wheel with a variable steering ratio, the vehicle guarantees the comfort of everyday movements while retaining the compactness required for intense driving.

BMW i4 M50 is the first electric car operated by the M department, this car's zero hundred acceleration to the M4, much faster than the 4 series 5-door version, its speed is not low. However, it is weaker than the performance of the Tesla Model 3 P version, the speed is also much lower, and the inherent deficiency of "oil to electricity" makes it difficult to do so extreme in performance.
