On April 3, 2022, a day that can be recorded in the history of world industry, BYD issued an announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it will stop the production of fuel vehicles from March, and in the future, BYD will focus on pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the automotive sector. This news does not seem to be surprising to people in the automotive industry, but BYD's step has gone a little faster and earlier, but for consumers, it seems to have seen the product of an era gradually drifting away. Last year, Li Bin, the founder of Weilai, said: "Why do you still buy oil (fuel) cars now?" Many people expressed dissatisfaction with his remarks, but now BYD took the lead in stopping the production of fuel vehicles, which also officially opened the prelude to the end of the era of fuel vehicles.

BYD follows the trend to get the essence of the dross
BYD did not start by producing cars, but relied on the production of lithium-ion batteries, and has become the first Chinese supplier of Motorola and Nokia.
In 2003, BYD began to lay out new energy vehicles at the beginning of entering the car, and in 2021, a series of new energy vehicles such as DM-i super hybrid models such as Qin, Song and Tang have been introduced, and have repeatedly set new sales highs. Today, BYD also has four fuel versions of F3, Song, Song PLUS, and Song Pro on sale, and the total sales volume of these four models accounts for only 2%. Therefore, BYD cutting down the production of fuel vehicles is definitely not a broken back road, but more like throwing away a piece of chicken ribs.
In February 2022, BYD renewed the brand and released a new logo. This is not only an upgrade of the LOGO, but also a symbol that BYD will have a new change, the establishment of Xiangyang Battery Company, the application and registration of the "BYD Meta Universe" trademark, and the establishment of DENZA Automobile Sales service Co., Ltd., which is wholly owned by BYD, all of which indicate that BYD will go all out to carry out new energy business. With reference to past experience, BYD's blade battery will also usher in greater room for development.
New energy vehicles grew rapidly year-on-year
After the end of the wandering stage of new energy vehicle sales, since July 2020, it has maintained a rapid growth trend. In the whole year of 2021, the wholesale of new energy passenger vehicles was 3.312 million units, an increase of 181.0% year-on-year, and the retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 2.989 million units, an increase of 169.1% year-on-year, and the sales scale in 2022 is expected to be close to or reach 5 million units.
According to Deloitte's analysis data, global new energy vehicle sales will exceed 6 million units in 2021, and will maintain an annual growth rate of 37% in the next four years, and by 2025, global new energy vehicle sales will reach 21.42 million, compared with 6.08 million in 2021, an increase of 352.3%. In February, the global electric vehicle market continued to grow rapidly, with sales soaring 99% year-on-year to 541,000 units, accounting for 9.3% of the global automotive market, almost double the share of the same period last year.
Domestic sales of new energy vehicles have also shown a trend of exponential increase. ACCORDING TOD's March production and sales report, which has just been released, this year's cumulative output of 287,530 vehicles, a cumulative increase of 416.96%; in terms of sales, BYD's pure electric passenger car sales in March were 53,664 units, an increase of 271.05%; plug-in hybrid models sold 50,674 units, an increase of 857.40%.
Skyworth Automobile's deliveries in March increased by 101% month-on-month, and in March, the company delivered a total of 2,046 vehicles, an increase of 101% month-on-month, of which 1,232 units were delivered domestically and 814 units were delivered overseas.
NIO: A total of 9,985 smart electric vehicles were delivered in March, an increase of 37.6% year-on-year. A total of 25,768 units were delivered in the first quarter, an increase of 28.5% year-on-year, and positive growth for eight consecutive quarters.
Xiaopeng Automobile delivered 15,414 units in March, an increase of 202% year-on-year; in the first quarter of 2022, a total of 34,561 smart cars were delivered, an increase of 159% year-on-year.
Ideal Cars delivered 11,034 units in March, an increase of 125.2% year-on-year; in the first quarter of 2022, Ideal Cars delivered a total of 31,716 units, an increase of 152.1% year-on-year.
Nezha Automobile delivered 12,026 vehicles in March, an increase of 270% year-on-year, in addition, the cumulative delivery volume of Nezha Automobile in the first quarter of this year reached 30,152 vehicles, an increase of 305% compared with 7,443 vehicles in the first quarter of last year.
A total of 10,059 units were delivered in March, an increase of 193% month-on-month, and the monthly delivery volume increased by more than 200% for 12 consecutive months.
With the advancement of technology, the endurance of new energy models continues to improve, in 2017, the A00-class EC180 cruising range of 180 km, the B-class Car Denza up to 350 km, the A00-class Euler cruising range of up to 400 km in 2021, and the B-class Car Xiaopeng P7 can reach up to 700 km. In 2016, the weighted average electricity consumption of 100 km of A-class pure electric vehicle sales was 17.8 degrees, and in 2021, the 100 km power consumption of models of the same level dropped to 12.5 degrees. This indicator has also played a very important role in increasing the sales of new energy vehicles.
Car companies have officially announced the suspension of fuel vehicle time
In 2021, BYD, the only Chinese car company at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, signed a pledge with Five car companies, Volvo, Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover, confirming that it will stop selling fuel vehicles by 2040, and Volvo plans to achieve full electrification as early as 2030.
Since the end of 2021, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance of Japan has said that in the next five years, the alliance plans to invest 23 billion euros in electrification; by 2030, the alliance will launch 35 new pure electric models and no longer develop fuel vehicles.
Volkswagen brand and Audi brand will stop developing the internal combustion engine in 2021, Volkswagen will stop selling fuel vehicles in the EU market in 2035, other markets are to be determined according to the actual situation, Audi will launch the last new pure internal combustion engine new car in 2025, and the existing fuel models will be officially discontinued in 2033 to further achieve Audi's goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050.
Bentley will add plug-in hybrids to its models in 2023, launch all-electric models in 2025, and stop selling fuel vehicles in 2030.
Lamborghini is the last year to produce fuel vehicles in 2022, with plug-in hybrid models in 2023 and pure electric models in 2025. Bugatti will launch the Chiron successor in 2024 and the first plug-in hybrid model in the future.
Although BMW has also accelerated the promotion of electric vehicles, it has not stopped upgrading the internal combustion engine. So although the BMW Group will stop selling fuel vehicles in the EU after 2030, there is still a chance to see BMW offer fuel vehicle models in other regions.
The end trend of fuel vehicles has been determined
From the sales volume, it can be felt that the decline in the subsidy for new energy vehicles that began in early 2022 has not affected its sales, and the preferential purchase policy for new energy vehicles also involves purchase tax reductions and exemptions in addition to subsidies. According to the calculation of an electric vehicle with a price of 300,000 yuan, it enjoyed a purchase subsidy of 18,000 yuan, a consumption tax of 22,700 yuan, and a car purchase tax of 26,500 yuan, with a total preferential treatment of 67,200 yuan, and the overall amount is still quite large. In addition, the restriction and number restriction policies of fuel vehicles in different cities provide convenient conditions for consumers to purchase and use new energy vehicles.
The main reason for promoting the development and sales of new energy vehicles is actually to better achieve the "double carbon" goal of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking, climate change is a global problem facing mankind, with the carbon dioxide emissions of various countries, greenhouse gases soar, posing a threat to life systems. In this context, countries around the world have reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the form of global compacts, and the mainland has clearly put forward the "double carbon" development goal of "achieving carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060" and writing it into the government work report.
Just after the just-concluded "2022 International Summit Forum on Vehicle Power System", Geely Automobile Wang Ruiping said that the transformation path of enterprises should be hybrid, electric and comprehensive transformation to electrification. Achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality has been the common goal of global development, and all car companies have begun to make a comprehensive layout. Just like a college entrance examination for car companies, it has entered the countdown stage.
The people evaluate the car
At present, fuel vehicles are still the mainstream, but it does not mean that fuel vehicles will always be mainstream. Fuel vehicles have gradually drifted away, but the current market is still the stage of fuel vehicles as the main force. We see a new way of life brought by new energy vehicles, but it is also difficult to give up the changes brought to our lives by fuel vehicles and the driving pleasure that is difficult to replace.
As a consumer, do you prefer fuel vehicles or prefer new energy models?
