Saic's core patent for the second generation plug-in hybrid drive transmission won the 23rd China Patent Award

Recently, the China Patent Award Evaluation Office of the State Intellectual Property Office announced the evaluation results of the 23rd China Patent Award, and SAIC's patent "Control System and Method for Hybrid Vehicle Transmission" won the China Patent Excellence Award.

Established in 1989 and jointly selected by the State Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the China Patent Award is the only government award in China that specifically awards granted patents, representing the highest honor in the field of chinese patents and being known as the "Oscar" of the patent industry. Winning this national honor once again proves the strong independent innovation and research and development strength of SAIC's own brand in the field of new energy core technology.

As early as 2008, SAIC Motor began to lay out the field of plug-in hybrid vehicles, and has developed patented technologies for two hybrid systems of dual motors and single motors, breaking through the monopoly of foreign hybrid system technology. The winning patent, the core patent of SAIC's second-generation plug-in hybrid electric drive gearbox (hereinafter referred to as "EDU G2"), is a low-cost, multi-mode, fuel-saving hybrid drive system developed by SAIC Jieneng's technical team.

As a key special project for new energy vehicles undertaken by SAIC during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, EDU G2 successfully passed the project acceptance in 2021, and the relevant core technology patents have been authorized in many developed markets such as Europe and the United States. It is worth mentioning that savoy's first-generation plug-in hybrid electric drive transmission (EDU G1) has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of Science and Technology of China's Automotive Industry, the China Patent Excellence Award and other national honors, and has also won the title of "The First World's Top Ten Transmissions".

In terms of practical technology applications, the EDU G2 has achieved large-scale mass production, and has been successfully installed in saic motor passenger cars' Roewe ei6 MAX, Roewe RX5 eMAX, Roewe RX5 ePLUS and the third generation MG6 PHEV, MG pilot PHEV, plug-in hybrid MG eHS and other domestic and export new energy models, the products have achieved full coverage from A-class cars to B-class cars, from cars to SUVs, and brought excellent power and fuel economy experience, winning the recognition of global consumers. As of March 2022, the models equipped with the hybrid system have sold more than 80,000 units, achieving sales of 13 billion yuan, with an average comprehensive fuel consumption of 1.25L/100km, which is based on the average fuel consumption of traditional vehicles of 7.5L/100km and the annual driving of 20,000km of household cars, achieving fuel savings of about 75,000 tons and reducing CO emissions by about 245,000 tons.

At present, a variety of plug-in hybrid models of SAIC passenger cars have won the favor of the global market and users with their leading technical advantages and product strength. Among them, Roewe RX5 ePLUS adopts a 1.5TGI cylinder-mounted direct injection turbocharged engine + 100kW high-power high-efficiency permanent magnet synchronous motor combination, matching a 10-speed second-generation EDU intelligent electric drive transmission, 100 km comprehensive fuel consumption as low as 1.6L, in the "2021 China Automobile Retention Rate Report" new energy one-year retention rate TOP list, won the compact plug-in hybrid SUV market champion.

The third-generation MG6 PHEV is equipped with SAIC's new 20T Trophy in-cylinder mid-direct injection turbo engine and high-power permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a maximum horsepower of 305PS and a maximum torque of 480N·m, achieving a strong performance of breaking 100 in 6 seconds, while the comprehensive fuel consumption of 100 kilometers is only 1.1L, perfectly balancing power performance and fuel economy.

In overseas markets, plug-in hybrid MG eHS meets the most stringent environmental protection regulations in Europe such as REACH and E-MARK, and the strong performance strength of 6.6 seconds to break 100 and 36 meters brake stop, which is exported to many high-energy markets in Europe and Australia, and recently won the 2021 Hybrid Model Award issued by New Zealand automotive media EVs & BEYOND.
