Member of the Communist Party of China - Zhong Nanshan Oil painting 180cm×230cm 2021

Oil painting "Member of the Communist Party of China - Zhong Nanshan" Following the permanent collection of the National Art Museum of China, Feng Shaoxie accepted the invitation to create a work of the same title again, which has recently been permanently collected by the National Museum of China. Works on the same theme are also collected by two of China's top professional art museums, which is rare in the history of Chinese art.

In fact, this work also had a relationship with the National Museum of China before: in 2020, in the "Unity of Purpose - Anti-epidemic Theme Art Works Exhibition" held by the National Museum, "Zhong Nanshan, a member of the Communist Party of China - Zhong Nanshan" was displayed in the most conspicuous position at the entrance of the exhibition hall.

Since then, the National Art Museum of China has held the "Great Journey, Picture Scroll of the Times - Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China Art Works Exhibition", "Beauty in Science and Technology - Exhibition of Fine Art Works on Science and Technology Collected by the National Art Museum of China", "Beauty in Cultivation - New Year Exhibition of the National Art Museum of China", and "Centennial Fanghua - Exhibition of Centennial Party History in Art Classics" held by the Propaganda Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China. The work has been featured in several major exhibitions.

Feng Shaoxie is known for his realistic oil painting portraits. He is good at exploring and revealing social reality through his works, drawing and showing the spiritual connotation of characters through details.

Up to now, he has created a total of four works of the same title, two large and two small. Two of them, 2.3 meters wide and 1.8 meters high, are collected by the National Art Museum of China and the National Museum of China, and the other two are 0.9 meters wide and 0.7 meters high, which are collected by Academician Zhong Nanshan himself and the Shanghai Baidai Art Museum.

Celebrity reviews

Chen Lusheng (former deputy director of the National Museum of China): The oil portrait of Zhong Nanshan created by Feng Shaoxie has unique characteristics. Feng Shaoxie carefully portrayed Zhong Nanshan's inner world with the traditional Chinese painting method of "writing Gods in form", which included his perseverance and courage, his fearless dedication, his love and compassion, and his responsibility to the country and the people.

Xu Qinsong (former vice chairman of the China Artists Association, former chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Artists Association, former president of the Guangdong Academy of Painting): Feng Shaoxie's oil painting "Member of the Communist Party of China - Zhong Nanshan" continues the style of depicting the characters of the times and depicting historical scenes that he has always been good at. Academician Zhong Nanshan in the picture is dignified and profound, and his heart is related to the people of his home country. And for the depiction of the character "Passing on the Spirit of Ah Guan", it is even more the ingenuity of the Shao Xie, the finishing touch in the painting - the drop of the boy's tears that do not flick, which excellently reflects the great love of Academician Zhong Nanshan and the magic of benevolence. This masterpiece can be described as an extremely shining and prominent representative work in the special creation of the "Art Epidemic" of the Guangdong Academy of Painting.

Li Jinkun (Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association, Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Artists Association, And President of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts): Feng Shaoxie vividly shows us a heroic image who stepped forward in a time of crisis with realism, and the tears flowing from the characters' resolute eyes further deepen the theme, making the characters have more power to directly hit the soul of the audience in their emotional interpretation.

Kong Wei (President of Shandong Academy of Painting): Mr. Feng Shaoxi is known for his realistic oil painting portraits, and the series of portraits he has created in the past are well known, all of which have deep spiritual considerations, exquisite realistic skills, rigorous modeling skills, superb artistic integration, he is good at exploring and revealing social reality through his works, and drawing and showing the spiritual connotation of characters through details.

This time, he created the image of Academician Zhong Nanshan, and the scale of his works was grand, completely different from the creation of other painters. In the depiction of this portrait, the gray hair on the forehead, the eye sockets full of tears, the anxious and resolute eyes, and the neck with the mark of vicissitudes are used to deeply portray the spiritual characteristics of Academician Zhong's all-out struggle and "epidemic" without hesitation, and the great love for the country and the people.

Hu Bin (Dean, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, School of Arts and Humanities, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts): Feng Shaoxie is an artist who always pays attention to major social events and is good at promoting his own language exploration in social participation. "Chinese Communist Party Member - Zhong Nanshan" is a masterpiece of his performance of China's anti-epidemic struggle. The huge picture portrays Zhong Nanshan, an outstanding figure in the fight against the epidemic, using unpredictable dark clouds to metaphorically describe the severity of the epidemic, while the image of Zhong Nanshan, who wears glasses, has gray hair, and is deeply determined, shows the belief and determination to win. In particular, the artist highlights the tears in his eyes and expresses a deep concern for the safety of the people. This is not just a portrait of an individual, but a "monument" to a group in which the party and the people are united in their will and overcome difficulties together.

On August 4, 2021, Feng Shaoxie called on Zhong Nanshan, the recipient of the "Order of the Republic" and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

Seeing this painting, my thoughts also returned to the anti-epidemic scene in Wuhan last year, when the epidemic situation was very severe, and my mood was also very anxious. I have paid attention to this work a long time ago, this work painted me rather haggard, but it faithfully reflected the situation at that time, and I am very grateful to Dean Feng for leaving me a very memorable work.

--Zhong Nanshan

At the moment of fighting the epidemic last year, in the face of disasters, the great spirit of Academician Zhong Nanshan who dared to take responsibility and did his duty touched countless Chinese people, and it was this kind of touching that made me create this work, I want to use the form of oil painting to make this feeling forever frozen in the history of art, but also recorded in the history of human disasters, a Chinese made contributions to the world.
