Once again appreciate the charm of Ming and Qing portrait paintings.

Portrait painting is the oldest painting discipline in various categories of Chinese painting, with a long history and a long history, developed to the Ming and Qing dynasties, on the basis of inheriting tradition, absorbing and borrowing foreign techniques, innovating and developing painting techniques, expression methods and style characteristics, etc., forming a perfect system with distinctive characteristics.

The Ming and Qing portraits in the National Museum of China are rich in subject matter and diverse in genre. Following the "Miaohe Divine Form - Ming and Qing Portraits Exhibition in the National Museum of China", the curatorial team once again selected more than 50 ming and qing portrait masterpieces (sets) from the collection of the National Museum of China, and launched the "Rong Yao Danqing - Ming and Qing Portraits Exhibition of the National Museum of China", which aims to continuously display the artistic achievements of Chinese portrait painting in the Ming and Qing dynasties and the unique charm of Chinese painting art.

The exhibition comprehensively shows the content techniques, era background, creative process and related connotations of Ming and Qing portrait paintings. While viewing the paintings, the audience can specifically and subtly appreciate the living conditions, spiritual outlook, ideological pursuits, belief concepts and aesthetic tastes of the characters of all classes in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and deeply understand the rich connotations of politics, etiquette, official system, art, customs, costumes, aesthetics and other aspects carried by cultural relics.

The exhibition consists of three units, and the selected paintings cover the royal family, famous courtiers, celebrities, literary associations, boudoirs, female appearances and other aspects, and the interpretation of the functional meaning of the paintings is systematic, diverse and in-depth.

Royal family and courtiers

The royal family and famous courtiers held high positions of power and outstanding merit, and later generations often painted statues to be sacrificed in order to pursue the distant and see the wise and the wise. Most of these portraits are written by professional painters, mainly realistic, with the shape of the gods, with bright colors, paying attention to portraying the facial features of the lord, shaping the majestic manners, and playing the role of jigong, praise, and performance. In addition, there are also documentary and documentary portraits depicting the daily life of ancient monarchs, whose facial posture is richer than the former and has a breath of life.

Baume & Mercier Literary Society

The portraits of the literati and celebrities are mostly group portraits in the collections and literary meetings, with different forms, showing elegance. In the xingle diagram, it is generally a solo image, or a costume prop, expression action to shape the character; or the statue is placed in the Xuan Pavilion or the mountain forest, with the study, landscape, trees and stones as the background to set off the personality of the characters, express preferences and ambitions, and contain rich cultural atmosphere. To a certain extent, such portraits reflect the characteristics of the portraits of literati and celebrities in the Ming and Qing dynasties that are entertaining, artistic and ornamental. In addition, there are portraits depicting family members gathering together, praising traditional ethics and virtues such as brotherhood, poetry and family heirlooms, and filial piety.

Boudoir Female Appearance

The boudoir and the female appearance include a large number of sacrificial portraits, as well as ornamental images of famous ladies and boudoir women. In terms of style, the Ming Dynasty is gorgeous and delicate, and the Qing Dynasty is beautiful and meticulous. Judging from the evolution trajectory of female portraits in previous dynasties, after the Ming Dynasty, female portraits gradually changed from group portrait composition to the depiction of independent individual portraits, from the purpose of early discipline and indoctrination to the presentation of women's beauty. Female portraits not only have the practical function of recording personal appearance, but also reflect the awakening of women's concepts to a certain extent. The new trend of independent female portraits since the Ming and Qing dynasties has important documentary value for understanding the social consciousness behind the portraits.

When it comes to Chinese painting, most of the first things that come to mind are landscapes, flowers and birds.

These paintings emphasize meaning, express feelings, and are a portrayal of the artist's heart.

Portraits are different.

In portraiture, the image of the ancients becomes the subject.

The picture frame in front of you seems to be an "arbitrary door"

Let's be able to directly oppose it.

The imprints of history brush these faces,

Looking at it, I can't help but think

Look closely at the mountains and mountains do not move, it is a boat line. ”
