Xiong Bingming (1922--2002), a native of Yunnan, born in Nanjing, is a famous French-Chinese artist and philosopher, and the son of Chinese mathematician Xiong Qinglai.
Xiong Bingming combines philosophy, literature, painting, sculpture and calligraphy, living in France for 50 years, whether it is the understanding of the philosophy of life or the practice of artistic creation, it runs through the East and the West, integrating the Chinese humanistic spirit. He has a profound study of Zhang Xu's cursive calligraphy, and also pays attention to the development of contemporary calligraphy, proposing that "contemporary calligraphy should find a way from the combination of inscriptions and posters, and wild grass should be written like Mr. Li Zhimin, and the value of introducing monuments into grass cannot be underestimated", which has been valued by the art theory community.
The exhibition takes Mr. Xiong Bingming's sculptures as the main line, and the philosophy of his creation is the internal logic. "Self" symbolizes an inspiration that fills us with enthusiasm and hope for life. Through the chapter of "Shaping 'Self'", the viewer can feel the overall responsibility and belief inspiration of the artist's "heart" plastic process and its spiritual orientation; the "Plastic 'Person'" chapter presents the artist's love for the image of life and the imagination of the life itself; the "Plastic 'Thing'" chapter, through the shaping of a "thing" and the transformation of many kinds, seemingly ordinary things, but contains rich spiritual connotations and philosophical ideas in concise shapes, lines and blocks.
