Tesla's new Model Y exposed: AWD power system, 450 km endurance

IT House reported on March 14 that according to a new document submitted by Tesla to the EPA, the company is preparing to launch a new version of the Model Y, with a range of 279 miles (about 449.01 kilometers) and an AWD powertrain. Foreign media believe that this may be the 4680 battery Model Y that will be produced in the Texas Gigafactory.

Judging from the new model Y rating released by the EPA, Tesla will add a standard endurance RWD version in addition to the two versions currently on sale. But Tesla offered the model last year, but Elon Musk said he wasn't satisfied with the model's battery life and then discontinued it. At present, the only models on sale in the United States are:

Model Y Long Range AWD Edition with a range of 330 miles and starts at $60,000

Model Y Performance Edition: 303 miles, starting at $65,000

Now EPA has added another version of the Tesla Model Y to its 2022 model list, which is an interesting version, especially at the juncture where Tesla's Texas Gigafactory is preparing to build a new Model Y.

IT House understands that the new Model Y is called "2022 Tesla Model Y AWD" on the EPA website:

As you can see in the image above, it has an EPA rating of 279 miles, well below the current 330-mile (about 531.08 km) range of the Model Y Long-Range AWD. So it should be a dual-motor version of the Model Y and will come with a smaller and more efficient battery pack.

Foreign media believe that this new electric SUV will be equipped with Tesla's own 4680 battery and a new structural battery pack design, and tesla is expected to start delivering new cars from the Super Factory in Texas, and may even arrive at the end of this month.
