According to the report data, the autism rehabilitation therapists with special education professional backgrounds accounted for the largest number of autism, accounting for 28.1%, preschool education and other teacher training, psychology, rehabilitation therapy accounted for 23.8%, 19.6%, 15.9%, respectively, and other majors accounted for 12.6%. In 2021, the National Health Commission, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education and other 8 departments jointly formulated the "Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Rehabilitation Medical Work", which pointed out that qualified colleges and universities should actively set up rehabilitation therapy and rehabilitation engineering and other shortage majors, and set up rehabilitation physical therapy, rehabilitation occupational therapy, hearing and speech rehabilitation and other majors according to the actual situation, increase the supply of rehabilitation treatment professionals, and pay attention to improving clinical practice capabilities.

Among the respondents, women accounted for the largest number, accounting for 67.9%, and men were 32.1%. For the problem of the proportion of female rehabilitation therapists, Zeng Songtian, director of the Rice and Xiaomi Institute of Child Development and Behavior, said that the proportion of women in the autism rehabilitation industry abroad is also relatively large, which is related to women's delicate feelings, affinity, and more patience with autistic children. But in this field, there is no shortage of excellent men who work as autism rehabilitation therapists, who are responsible, purposeful, and tirelessly pursuing their profession.

These factors affect occupational well-being

The report shows that among the ten factors affecting the professional happiness of autism rehabilitation therapists, the importance is "income level", "parent feedback", "personal ability", "professional rank level", "career development opportunities", "personal interest", "platform strength", "workplace relationship", "company welfare" and "social prestige".

For the situation of existing practitioners, Qiu Junjie, a senior researcher at the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Special Child Development and Education, said that many autism rehabilitation therapists choose to enter the industry after they have really come into contact with the autism group. 18.6% of the practitioners who had heard of the autism rehabilitation therapist profession before going to college, and 40.3% and 34.7% of the practitioners who heard about it during the university and career selection period, respectively. Judging from the respondent data, "the industry has development potential" and "love of special education" and "job stability" are the main reasons why autism rehabilitation therapists choose to pursue this profession.

Autism rehabilitation therapists use their professional skills to help children improve their social skills and integrate into society, but they will also encounter some problems in life and work. According to the report, 34.9 percent of autism rehabilitation therapists found the most challenging job to be "dealing with children's challenging behaviors" and 33.4 percent found "personalized interventions for different children" the most challenging. Faced with the "most stressful scenario", the most autistic rehabilitation therapists chose "child safety problems", accounting for 33.1%.

"Some therapists who choose autistic children's rehabilitation institutions may change their career direction due to salary levels, promotion space and large workloads, and there are too few real child rehabilitation teachers." In this case, it is particularly important to improve the happiness of autistic rehabilitation practitioners in institutions, because the happiness of rehabilitation teachers is directly related to the quality of rehabilitation services for autistic children. An expert in the field of autism said.

Among the 1326 respondents, they expressed their need for government support, professional training support, parent support, public awareness and public opinion support, employment support, and community support. Sun Zhongkai, executive director of Xingxingyu, said that he called on more professionals to join the field of autism rehabilitation, and at the same time, hoped to discover more resources, continue to advocate policies, promote the introduction of corresponding policies, and better help these autism rehabilitation therapists.
