In 2022, what kind of performance will the bus market start with? Which of the three market segments of large, medium and light passengers can gain the opening?
The first commercial vehicle network has recently learned that according to the data of the China Automobile Association (the caliber of the number of invoices issued by enterprises, the caliber of non-terminal sales, the same below), in January 2022, the domestic bus (including chassis) market produced and sold 29,700 vehicles and 30,500 vehicles, down 40% and 43% month-on-month, down 15% and 16% year-on-year, and production and sales both showed double-digit declines. Compared with the same period in 2021, the share of large buses in the bus market expanded by 2.1%, the share of medium-sized buses in the market decreased slightly by 0.03%, and the share of light passengers in the bus market fell by 2.07 percentage points.
Looking at the sales volume and growth trend of the bus market in January in the past 5 years, it can be seen that the bus market has come out of a trend of increasing-falling-falling-increasing-decreasing in January of the past 5 years, and the bottom is in 2020, the sales volume of the bus market in January of that year failed to exceed 30,000 units, and only 27,800 vehicles were sold due to the impact of the epidemic; the high level of the bus market in January in the past 5 years was in January 2021, with sales of 36,200 vehicles. The passenger car market of 30,500 units in January was the second lowest in five years, selling about 5,700 fewer units than in January last year.

Sales of large buses
In January 2022, the sales of large buses (including chassis) were 2706 units, down 67% month-on-month and 10% year-on-year, and the sales growth rate achieved a positive, and the large passenger market harvested growth again after 9 months, and became the only segment of the bus market to achieve growth in January. In January, the top 5 companies in terms of sales of large buses (including chassis) were Yutong Bus, Foton Automobile, Suzhou Jinlong, Zhongtong Bus and CRRC Electric, with a total of 1920 units sold by the five companies, accounting for 70.95% of the total sales of large buses (including chassis) in January.

As can be seen from the above table, compared with the previous month, the top 5 companies in the sales of large buses (including chassis) increased by 1 and fell by 4, and Foton Automobile performed better than last December in January; compared with the same period in 2021, the top five companies in sales increased by 3 and fell by 2, and Foton Motor, Suzhou Jinlong and CRRC Electric achieved growth, with an increase of 1950%, 8% and 52% respectively; the sales volume of large passengers in January of the most serious decline was 31% year-on-year. In January 2022, Foton Motor achieved double positive growth month-on-month and year-on-year, while Yutong Bus and Zhongtong Bus suffered a double decline from the previous month and year-on-year.
Sales of medium-sized buses
In January 2022, sales of medium-sized buses (including chassis) were 2,654 units, down 60% month-on-month and 16% year-on-year, the same as the previous month (16% year-on-year decline in December 2021). In January, the top five companies in terms of medium-sized bus (including chassis) sales were: Yutong Bus, Dongfeng Company, FAW Toyota, Ankai Bus and Xiamen Jinlong, with a total of 1738 vehicles sold by the five companies, accounting for 65.49% of the total sales of medium-sized buses (including chassis) in January.

As can be seen from the above table, compared with the previous month, the sales volume of medium-sized buses (including chassis) increased by 1 and 4, and FAW Toyota achieved a unique increase; compared with the same period in 2021, the sales volume of the top five companies increased by 3 and fell by 2, and Dongfeng, FAW Toyota and Ankai Bus achieved growth, with an increase of 0.3%, 28% and 8% respectively; the decline in enterprises that suffered declines was double digits, and the sales of the most serious decline companies in January fell by 40% year-on-year. In January 2022, FAW Toyota, one of the top five companies in the mid-size bus market, achieved positive growth month-on-month and year-on-year, while Yutong and Xiamen Jinlong suffered a double decline from the previous month and year-on-year.
Sales of light buses
In January 2022, light buses (including chassis) sold 25,100 units, down 35% month-on-month and 18% year-on-year, a decline of 4 percentage points from the previous month (sales in December 2021 fell by 14% year-on-year), and the continuous downward momentum of the light passenger market expanded to "5 consecutive declines". In January, the top 5 companies in terms of sales of light buses (including chassis) were: Chongqing Changan, SAIC Maxus, Jiangling Motors, Nanjing Iveco and Foton Motor. The five companies sold a total of 20,300 units, accounting for 80.85% of the total sales of light buses (including chassis) in January.
