Two-wheeled truck out of the mountain, Iveco light passenger pull half hanging, network hot truck identification 5

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the fifth issue of the "Identification of Popular Trucks on the Web" series launched by Tigot Commercial Vehicle Network. It has been more than a month since the first issue of "Network Hot Truck Identification" was released. I can get all the way to the present, and I can't do without the support of all readers and friends. Here, I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to you. Next, let's start today's article together!

1# What's going on with the two-wheeled truck?

This set of pictures was found by the author on a forum. How to describe this car on the picture? How exactly is this car driven? This question has also bothered the author for a long time. In fact, this unique vehicle is used to transport seaplanes, which is very common in the United States and Mexico.

In general, this type of car is modified from a four-wheel drive pickup truck. During the modification, the modification factory will cut off the rear axle and rear drive shaft of the vehicle, and cut off the cargo box, leaving only the cab, engine and other parts. After that, the vehicle's frame is extended forward and connected to the carrier used to transport the seaplane, and the modification work is complete. This modification is generally carried out with some elderly pickup trucks, which is more economical. These specially modified vehicles cannot be driven onto public roads, so it is more economical to retrofit them with old used pickups. Moreover, the electronic system of the old pickup truck is relatively simple, and cutting off the rear half will not affect the function of the vehicle too much.

Why fix the aircraft carrier to the front? There are two reasons for this. First, aircraft are highly valuable cargoes. If you want to transport safely, you must always keep the aircraft in sight. Therefore, the vehicle must face the seaplane head to transport the aircraft in a "push" manner Second, this type of vehicle needs to put the seaplane into the water, in order not to immerse the vehicle in the water, the bracket must be made farther away from the body. Moreover, the seaplane must be "pushed" into the water. Therefore, this unique modification method was adopted.

As in the picture above, it is still quite interesting and has regional characteristics.

2# The strongest small horse-drawn cart, Iveco Daily changed to half-hung

At first glance, this new Iveco Daily is no different. But why does this Daily have three sets of wheels?

It's good not to look at that, I can't see it. It turned out to be a tractor version of the Iveco Daily. As a light commercial vehicle, IVECO has never officially launched a tractor version of the Daily model. How did this car come about? The author checked the information and found that this Daily half-hanging was modified by a Polish company. As the leader of the transport industry in Eastern Europe, poles have never lacked the idea of this kind of drying out vehicles.

The refit was based on an IVECO Daily Class II chassis originally used to modify a motorhome. The Daily Class II chassis for motorhomes has a standard cab, but leaves the factory without a cab rear wall. After that, the Polish company added a rear sleeper and storage box system from Lamar's Backsleeper, and added the corresponding saddle, electrical interface, and transformed it into a semi-trailer.

The interior space of the light trailer can be placed in 16 European standard pallets, which is a very large space. Its tractor, Iveco Daily, also changed the registration type after completing the modification, and the GVW was raised to 7 tons.

The Daily model is a 50C18 with a Fiat F1C engine, a 3.0T displacement + 180 hp, and a 8AT gearbox from ZF. However, the torque of about 400 Nm is still a lot behind that of a serious large-displacement diesel engine. With the exception of Poland, Europe can't see this kind of modification.

3# American body, European heart of The Duff/International Truck

The cause of everything still comes from this picture. When collecting information on a daily basis, the author found this manual map, and the truck in the picture above is called the IWC FTT 2800, which looks very familiar.

After taking a closer look, I found that this is indeed a DUF 2800. I'm a European brand, how did I hang up the name of an American brand? It all started in the last century. Around 1970, DUF encountered extremely serious financial problems. In order to survive the company, Duff had to sell its passenger car production division to Volvo and transform it into a pure commercial vehicle company. At the same time, they also have a crush on the U.S. market. So on March 22, 1972, DUFF signed an agreement with The United States' International to produce and sell DUF trucks in the U.S. market.

This is where we see the International FTT 2800 coming from. In the same year, DUF reorganized daf Trucks BV, which is known today as DUF Trucks. When the company was founded, Chicago International Harvester, the parent company of IWC, purchased a 33% stake in the company. Incidentally, Duff later merged with The British Leland Trucks for listing. After the merger of the two companies, a company called Leyland DAF Vans (LDV) was formed in 1993, which was later sold to SAIC and then today's SAIC Chase.

4# Retro and trendy combination, this FH16 750 is too weird

Recently, a newly delivered fifth-generation Volvo FH16 750 8x4 chassis car has attracted attention and caused a lot of discussion on Facebook and the forums. What is being discussed is not the vehicle's powerful performance, nor is it the rare 750 hp chassis car configuration. It's an analogue driving data recorder inside the cab!

It's the one at the top of the cab that looks like a disc. In the past, the development of electronic information technology was relatively backward, and analog driving recorders were popular. After entering the new century, more and more vehicles have been equipped with digital driving recorders. However, this truck may be the fish that slipped through the net. Full LCD dashboard + touch multimedia screen, the degree of digital interconnection of the new FH is very good. Paired with this 20-year-old analog recorder, it seems out of place.

The chassis will be converted into a wrecker for wrecker work on German highways. According to EU Regulation 561/2006, trucks traveling within a radius of 100 km of the company's headquarters do not need to be equipped with a dashcam. Therefore, this wrecker does not actually need to be equipped with a dashcam. Moreover, analogue dashcams have been deprecated since 2006, making it difficult to read out the data. Perhaps, just because its owner is very conservative, so it is quite interesting to choose this configuration.
