Fu Shan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties was revered by the people of the time as the "first writer of the early Qing Dynasty", and Fu Shan, along with Gu Yanwu, Huang Zongxi, Wang Fuzhi, Li Yong and Yan Yuan, was called the "Sixth Master of the Early Qing Dynasty" by Liang Qichao.
Speaking of Fu Shan's calligraphy, people often think of his discussion of the four Nings and four wus of the book: "The book is not clumsy, the book is ugly rather than flattering, it is better to be fragmented than slippery, and it is better to be honest than to arrange." The aesthetic point of view, thinking of his wild grass that flew wildly.
In fact, Fu Shan is not only good at cursive writing, but also good at calligraphy, and has many insights into calligraphy, which can be whipped into and thought-provoking.
Fu Shan said: "The book does not know the change of the seal, and it is a vulgar style to write about the wonderful realm. The unpredictability of the King of Zhong is all due to Ah Block. "A block" here is a common saying in the Jin Dynasty, that is, the meaning of "this". This sentence says that the reason why Zhong Xuan and Wang Xizhi wrote them well is that they "know the change of the seal and the subordinate", and use the method of the seal to write the letter. He also said: "The letter does not come from the eight points of the seal, that is, the slave state is not enough to look at. He repeatedly stressed that the letter must come from the seal, and that the writing of the letter must first understand the penmanship of the seal, otherwise it is "vulgar" and "slave", and it is not enough. It is the evolution of the seal and the letter, and it is necessary to understand the ins and outs of the letter and increase the meaning of the seal in the letter, so that it can have a thick and simple atmosphere and avoid the drawbacks of weakness and flickering.
Fu Shan's exquisite and mellow book of the Diamond Sutra allows us to see another side of the calligrapher Fu Shan. Fu Shan took the viewer to the quiet Buddhist shrine and listened to him read the Buddhist scriptures to us beautifully, which also made us hold our breath and feel the shock of his soul. This small volume of the Diamond Sutra is more than 5,000 words, meticulously written and well written. Its knots are natural, unorganized, lively and vivid. The words of the left and right structures are wide and flattened; the words of the upper and lower structures are at their length, stretching and slender. Its strokes are square and round, natural and smooth. The vertical painting is thicker, just as Fu Shan said that Xiao Kai's "column pen writing paper" is very strong; the horizontal painting is thinner, and some are slightly bowed, and they are elastic. On the whole, the characters are horizontal, mellow and simple, directly chasing Zhong Xuan and Wang Xizhi, and have the charm of Wei and Jin. The book has the word "Yi Mo", the last year of Yi is the twelfth year of Qing Shunzhi (1655), which should be Fu Shan's book in prison, which is 48 years old, which is the fine work of his calligraphy maturity period in his prime years.
