A two-dimensional unsteady continuous solid-state model was established for the stacked bed phase change regenerator, and its heat storage characteristics were numerically studied. The simulation results reveal the changes of the oblique temperature layer and the distribution state of the heat exchange temperature difference during the heat storage process. The effects of initial temperature, heat transfer fluid inlet temperature and phase change capsule diameter on heat storage performance were explored, and the obtained results were compared with the existing literature. In order to further improve the packing rate, combined with the particle packing theory, a stacking optimization scheme with particle diameter obeying Alfred distribution was proposed. The simulation results show that the proposed optimization method can significantly increase the heat storage time when the heat storage time is increased slightly, and has a good optimization effect.
