Perhaps because I have admired Academician Sun Jiadong for a long time, when a publishing house invited me to create a long-form reportage about Sun Jiadong, I was full of a longing and expectation.
On January 6, 2020, I braved the snow to go to the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and began the first wave of interviews. In the foyer of the research institute's office building, I saw for the first time a statue of Qian Xuesen, a giant of science. His eyes were shining, and his right finger was pointing forward, as if he was still leading the Chinese astronauts into space.
However, in order to comply with the requirements of the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, I adjusted the pace of creation. Just at this time, the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation sent me a whole box of books and materials, including "Mountains and Rivers : Remembering My Father Nie Rongzhen", "Qian Xuesen's Aerospace Years", and the biographies of four aerospace elders Ren Xinmin, Tu Shouyi, Huang Weilu and Liang Shouyu.
When I traveled through the tunnel of time and entered the early days of China's aerospace industry, I was deeply touched by the years when passion burned. Just as he said in a later interview with Sun Jiadong: According to our country's industrial base and scientific research reserves in the 1950s and 1960s and 1960s and 1970s, we simply did not have the most basic conditions for engaging in "two bombs and one satellite." It was precisely because mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and other revolutionaries of the older generation made an iron determination, Qian Xuesen, and a group of other scientists struggled painstakingly, and because of the difficulties overcome by the first generation of astronauts, that missiles took off and satellites flew into the sky.
When I studied the biographies of the aerospace elders, I found that they had one thing in common: they all invariably gave up the favorable conditions abroad, endured hardships, and even broke through all kinds of obstacles, and resolutely returned to the motherland. Pledge yourself to the country, and be fierce!
When Sun Jiadong returned from studying abroad and joined the work, his strongest feelings were this patriotic feeling and the spirit of dedication and sacrifice. It is precisely because of the words and deeds of the predecessors that Sun Jiadong has a colorful and brilliant life. He later often said, "If the country needs it, I will do it," which was sublimated from this.
In June 2020, I started a new round of interviews. Ouyang Ziyuan, Fan Benyao, Ye Peijian, Yang Changfeng, Wu Weiren, Li Zuhong, Xie Jun, Zhang Rongqiao, Sun Zezhou, and other leaders in the aerospace industry are very busy with their work and do not easily accept interviews, but as soon as they heard that I wanted to write about Sun Jiadong, no one resigned.
These astronauts who looked up at the starry sky told me about "Dongfanghong No. 1", "Chang'e", "Beidou", and "Tianwen". Wonderful details, flying passion, touched me again and again. Therefore, a tireless and down-to-earth Sun Jiadong, a Sun Jiadong who bravely shouldered heavy burdens and worked hard, and a Sun Jiadong who had no complaints and no regrets and served the country by space slowly became plump and vivid in my mind.
Sun Jiadong, the recipient of the "Order of the Republic" sitting in front of me, is simple, modest and kind. He has repeatedly said that the aerospace industry is a cause created by the collective, first of all, the correct decision-making of the Party Central Committee and the strong support of the people of the whole country. As for me personally, I am just an ordinary science and technology worker.
I am reminded of a detail: on the morning of July 31, 2020, the completion and opening ceremony of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system was held in Beijing. When Sun Jiadong came to the venue in a wheelchair, the heroes of the Beidou Project all gathered around to pay tribute to the first chief designer of the project.
2022 has arrived. According to the plan of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, there will be more than 40 space launch missions in 2022, including 6 major missions in manned spaceflight. This year, the Chinese space station will be fully completed. In addition, the launch of a number of key rocket models such as the first flight of the Long March 6 A carrier rocket will also be completed.
