The National Engineering Research Center for Deep Learning Technology and Application was officially inaugurated

With the approval of the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Engineering Research Center for Deep Learning Technology and Application (hereinafter referred to as the "Engineering Research Center") has been included in the new sequence management. On April 26, the Engineering Research Center held an unveiling ceremony that combined online and offline, and more than 20 academicians and experts and leaders of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission attended through remote access, and discussed the construction and future development direction of the Engineering Research Center.

The predecessor of the National Engineering Research Center for Deep Learning Technology and Application is the National Engineering Laboratory for Deep Learning Technology and Application, which was led by Baidu and jointly established by Tsinghua University, Beihang University, China Electronics Technology Standardization Institute, and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. In the past five years since its establishment, the laboratory has taken deep learning technology as the core, developed key core technologies of artificial intelligence, and promoted large-scale industrial applications. As an important achievement of the laboratory, China's first self-developed industry-level deep learning open source open platform Flying Propeller has gathered 4.06 million developers and served 157,000 enterprises and institutions, ranking first in the comprehensive share of China's deep learning platform market. At the same time, the laboratory has undertaken a number of national scientific research projects, participated in the development of important standards, formed a sustainable collaborative innovation mechanism for production, education and research, cultivated a large number of technical talents, and promoted the integration and development of artificial intelligence and all walks of life.

The director of the Technical Committee of the National Engineering Research Center for Deep Learning Technology and Application is Academician Pan Yunhe of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Academician Ding Wenhua, Academician Wu Jianping, Academician Army, Academician Wu Hanming, Academician Sun Ninghui, and Academician Qian Depei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences are the deputy directors. Baidu Chief Technology Officer Wang Haifeng served as chairman and director, Yu Xiaohui, president of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Sun Wenlong, vice president of China Electronics Technology Standardization Institute, Sun Maosong, executive vice president of Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and Liu Xudong, deputy director of the Academic Committee of School of Computer Science of Beihang University, served as vice chairmen. The engineering research center focuses on major national strategic tasks and key project construction needs, carries out research on key core technologies, explores the model of innovation consortium, and accelerates the engineering and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.

At the unveiling ceremony, a number of academicians and experts discussed the construction of the engineering research center and the future development direction. Academician Pan Yunhe pointed out, "I hope that the engineering research center will strengthen the research breakthrough of combining knowledge and machine learning, build a more widely used technology platform, explore the model of sustainable development, actively expand cooperation, and enhance the scale and influence of application at home and abroad." Wang Haifeng said, "In the future, we hope to carry out research on the key core technologies of artificial intelligence, explore the model of innovation consortium, face the major needs of the country, give play to the efficiency of industry-university-research collaboration, accelerate the engineering and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements, and at the same time face the main economic battlefield, accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence and the real economy, and strive to build a national strategic scientific and technological force." ”
