Comrade Li Sanli, a member of the Communist Party of China, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a professor of the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University, died in Beijing at the age of 87 on April 23, 2022 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Born in Shanghai on August 24, 1935, Comrade Li Sanli studied in the Department of Radio of Tsinghua University from 1951 to 1955, obtained an associate doctorate degree from the Institute of Computing Technology of the Former Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1960, worked in Tsinghua University and Shanghai University, served as the director of the Computer Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and concurrently served as the dean of the School of Computer Science of Shanghai University.

He is the chief scientist of the National Climbing Program, the convener of the Computer Discipline Review Group of the Degree Committee of the State Council, and the chairman of the IEEE China Branch. He is the deputy editor-in-chief of the Compilation Committee of the Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology in China, and the editor-in-chief of the branch of Computer Architecture. He joined the Communist Party of China on March 1, 1956. In 1995, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Comrade Li Sanli has been engaged in computer architecture research for a long time since 1956, and has been responsible for the development of four generations of mainland electron tubes, transistors, LSI and VLSI computers. Among them, the 724 machine is the largest computer used by domestic universities for the country's cutting-edge science and technology in the 1970s; the 102 machine is a raster NUMERICAL control computer for processing important components, which increases the precision machining efficiency by dozens of times, and achieves significant social and economic benefits, so that the mainland entered the international advanced ranks at that time in this field.
