Manual electric car? Toyota applied for a patent for an electric vehicle analog manual transmission

In today's electric vehicle market, gearboxes are basically rare. In the current hottest electric car Tesla, there is no such thing as shifting gears, only a 1-speed transmission. In some luxury electric vehicles such as Porsche and Audi, a rare 2-speed gearbox is used to achieve faster response at higher speeds and thus better performance on German highways. But in addition to these two electric vehicles, the influential electric vehicle transmission does not really have a place in the current electric vehicle, but this phenomenon may soon be broken by Toyota.

According to foreign media reports, according to Toyota's recent patent application, a manual transmission with a clutch may appear in Toyota's new car in the near future. Unlike in the past, the manual transmission will be installed on the electric car. In its patent application, Toyota essentially created a manual transmission similar to that controlled by a traditional clutch, with a familiar shift lever and a style similar to that found on the Toyota GR86. In a related patent application, Toyota explained: "The controller of an electric vehicle will bring a driving experience similar to that of a manual transmission model, which can control the torque of the electric motor through the amount of operation of the electric door pedal, the operation of the pseudo-clutch pedal and the shift position of the pseudo-shifter, resulting in a gear shift-like effect."

Toyota's remarks above show that the gearbox is not necessary for the vehicle, but is only set up to provide more driving pleasure. At the same time, in order to bring more realistic effects, Toyota will also add a shift reaction force generator to electric vehicles equipped with the manual transmission, which simulates the operation of the pseudo-shifter through the operation of the reaction actuator and generates the shift reaction force.

Due to the rise of electric vehicles and the current fewer manual models, it is becoming more and more difficult for some people who like the handling experience to choose a model that can meet their driving pleasure, and the use of Toyota's technology may better meet the needs of such users.
