Samsung has filed a patent for a highly versatile dual-fold Galaxy Z Fold phone with mechanisms for folding inward and outward. However, this is not a Z-folding design, instead, the phone has a hinge on both the horizontal and vertical axes. This patent was filed by Samsung Electronics with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) on July 13, 2021. A 57-page document entitled "Foldable Electronic Devices" was released today (February 10, 2022). The same document was submitted a year ago on Korean soil.
In its unfolded state, this patented Samsung phone has the same large screen area as the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, polylines are quite different. This time, the vertical polyline was placed in the center-left position. Therefore, the right part of the screen is wider than the left part. It is also a screen that folds outwards. So when you fold your phone, you get a double-sided phone with the screen part extending to the back through the left-hand side. Triple camera systems can still be used when folded. Since there is also a screen on the back, you can also take selfies with a three-in-one camera.
The Huawei Mate Xs is the only foldable model with a foldable screen folded outwards to date. The disadvantage of this is that the phone screen does not maintain protection against scratches and collisions when folded. However, Samsung has found a solution to this problem. This is where horizontal polylines come in. This one is right in the middle and has a mechanism for folding inwards. Of course, you can not only fold your phone in this way, but also use it. This way, you can use the device as a small laptop, with the lower screen part as a virtual keyboard and the upper screen part displaying content.
