On April 28, Huawei officially released a new generation of Mate Xs 2 folding screen mobile phone, equipped with Snapdragon 888 processor, but does not support 5G communication, starting at 9999 yuan, which is also Huawei's first folding screen mobile phone with a price of 10,000 yuan. In addition, Huawei has also released more than ten new products such as smart TVs, watches, bracelets, tablets, smart door locks, and routers.
At the press conference, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's terminal business, revealed that as of now, the number of Huawei devices equipped with HarmonyOS has exceeded 240 million units, and the shipment of ecological equipment has exceeded 150 million units. In 2021, Huawei invested 17.46 billion euros in R&D, ranking second in the world, and Huawei's patent applications were 6,952, ranking first in the world for five consecutive years.
In terms of specific products, the main advantages of the new folding mobile phone are "thin and light" and "strong". After the comparison of the Southern + reporter, it was found that the product weighed 255g, the lightest of the mainstream folding mobile phones released so far, and the weight was much lower than that of Xiaomi Mix Fold (317g), vivo X Fold (311g), OPPO Find N (275g) and other products.
Huawei Mate Xs 2 is equipped with a composite enhanced structural screen, which sets up a buffer layer, a protective layer, and a barrier layer, which further enhances the structural strength of the screen, so that the anti-drop characteristics of the mobile phone are increased by 2.5 times, and the impact resistance is increased by 2.8 times; it also adopts a new generation of hinge technology and aerospace-grade materials, which increases the flatness of the mobile phone screen by more than 70%, and the crease is significantly reduced.
In other configurations, the phone uses a 4880mAh battery and 66W fast charging, equipped with a 50 million pixel main camera, a 13 million pixel ultra-wide angle lens and a 3x optical zoom telephoto lens; it also launched a 3D precision indoor positioning function to achieve coverage of more than 160 cities and more than 1300 business districts. In terms of software ecology, all TOP300 applications have been adapted to Huawei folding screen mobile phones, which basically solves the problem that the current large-screen APP adaptation is not high.
Overall, the product gives a self-developed exclusive solution for the "three major pain points" of folding mobile phones in weight, thickness and structural strength, and to a certain extent, it has achieved industry leadership. The only regret is that the series of mobile phones is still a 4G mobile phone and cannot support 5G communication, which may have a negative impact on the subsequent sales of the product.
The latest data shows that Huawei's revenue in the first quarter of this year has fallen by 10% year-on-year, and its net profit margin has also dropped from 11.1% in the same period last year to 4.3%. In order to avoid further decline, Huawei previously announced that it will rename its consumer business "terminal business", stabilizing the mass consumer market while focusing on the commercial market.
