The National Standard No. 2 amendment to the "Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation" stipulates that from January 1 this year, newly produced passenger cars in China should be equipped with EDRs that meet the requirements. This device, commonly known as the car black box, is triggered when the vehicle collides or the speed changes drastically, and the recording begins.
Cao Guangping, an independent researcher on new energy vehicles, introduced that the driver's behavior of stepping on the brake pedal in the accident, EDR will save the brake signal from how many milliamperes to how many milliamperes, including deceleration, finally stop, the whole process will be recorded.
In addition to recording the driver's handling data, EDR also records the vehicle status.
Lu Wenliang, a special researcher in the automotive industry at the Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Consulting Institute, introduced that for example, vehicle speed, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, steering wheel angle, brake throttle state, etc., especially when an accident occurs in a vehicle with auxiliary driving function, EDR can distinguish whether it is the vehicle's system failure or human operation error, which helps us to determine the responsibility for the accident.
At present, 99% of new cars listed in the United States are equipped with EDR, and about 10% of new cars in mainland China are equipped. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury cars, as well as new energy vehicles such as Weilai and BYD, are mostly equipped with EDR, and the average cost is about 1,000 yuan.
Will the large-scale equipping of new cars with EDR cause an increase in car prices? Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, said that the cost of EDR is relatively low, that is, the concept of 300 to 500 yuan, and manufacturers can overcome this impact and will not increase the cost of car purchases for consumers.
