The National Standard No. 2 amendment to the "Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation" stipulates that from January 1 this year, newly produced passenger cars in China should be equipped with "EDR" that meets the requirements. This device, commonly known as the car black box, is triggered when the vehicle collides or the speed changes drastically, and the recording begins.
Cao Guangping, an independent researcher of new energy vehicles, introduced: In the accident, the driver's behavior of stepping on the brake pedal, EDR will save the brake signal from how many milliamperes to how many milliamperes, including deceleration, finally stop, the whole process will be recorded.
In addition to recording the driver's handling data, EDR also records the vehicle status.
Lu Wenliang, a special researcher in the automotive industry at the Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Consulting Institute, introduced: For example, the speed of the vehicle, the acceleration of the longitudinal and horizontal directions, the angle of the steering wheel, the state of the brake throttle, etc., especially when the vehicle with auxiliary driving function is involved in an accident, EDR can distinguish whether it is the system failure of the vehicle or the human operation error, which helps to determine the responsibility for the accident.
At present, 99% of new cars listed in the United States are equipped with EDR, and about 10% of new cars in mainland China are equipped. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury cars, as well as new energy vehicles such as Weilai and BYD, are mostly equipped with EDR, and the average cost is about 1,000 yuan.
Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, introduced: Next year, the large-scale equipping of new cars with EDR will not cause an increase in car prices. The cost is relatively low, that is, the concept of 300 to 500 yuan, and the manufacturer can overcome this impact without increasing the cost of car purchase for consumers.
