From 2022 onwards
New cars are forced to install EDR!

"Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation"
Requirements are from January 2022
Newly produced passenger cars must be equipped with EDR systems
i.e. driving event logger
Introduction
From January 1, newly produced passenger cars in China will be equipped with EDR. The device, known as the car black box, records vehicle operation data before and after the accident. In the future, the "Rashomon" incident involving intelligent driving, such as Tesla's brake door, is expected to be "hammered" through the data of the black box.

"Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation" National Standard No. 2 Amendment Order / from the Network
In this regard, many car owners have doubts:
What exactly is an EDR device?
Why install EDR?
Xiaobian will take you to understand it immediately
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publishes relevant standards / the website of the Equipment Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
The National Standard No. 2 amendment to the "Technical Conditions for the Safety of Motor Vehicle Operation" stipulates that from January 1 this year, newly produced passenger cars in China should be equipped with "EDR" that meets the requirements. This device, commonly known as the car black box, is triggered when the vehicle collides or the speed changes drastically, and the recording begins. Cao Guangping, an independent researcher of new energy vehicles, introduced:
In the event of an accident, the driver's act of stepping on the brake pedal, the EDR will save the brake signal from how many milliamps to how many milliaamperes, including deceleration, finally stop, the whole process will be recorded.
In addition to recording the driver's control data, EDR will also record the status of the vehicle, Lu Wenliang, a special researcher in the automotive industry at the Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Consulting Institute, introduced:
For example, the speed, the longitudinal and lateral acceleration, the steering wheel angle, the brake throttle state, etc., especially when the auxiliary driving function of the vehicle has an accident, EDR can distinguish whether it is the vehicle's system failure or human operation error, which helps us to determine the responsibility for the accident.
At present, 99% of new cars listed in the United States are equipped with EDR, and about 10% of new cars in mainland China are equipped. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury cars, as well as new energy vehicles such as Weilai and BYD, are mostly equipped with EDR, and the average cost is about 1,000 yuan. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, introduced that the large-scale equipping of new cars with EDR will not cause price increases.
Cui Dongshu: The cost is relatively low, that is, 300 to 500 yuan, and the manufacturer can overcome this impact and will not increase the cost of car purchase for consumers.
In the future, the "Rashomon" events involving intelligent driving, such as Tesla brake doors and Weilai assisted driving accidents, are expected to be "hammered" through black box data, but the ownership and use of relevant data still need to be clarified. Currently, only Tesla's EDR data is encrypted, which means it is difficult to interpret without manufacturer authorization and professional tools. In this regard, Guo Qing, a senior partner at Kyoto Law Firm, suggested:
One is that the car manufacturer invites a third party to interpret the encrypted data in an authorized manner, and the other is a coercive third party such as the regulatory authorities to extract and interpret it. Legal professionals hope that the implementation rules of the Data Security Law will give some effective and specific operation methods.
Starting this year
Various accident disputes over new cars
All will be well documented
