The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued relevant standards / The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Equipment Center website "Motor Vehicle Operation Safety Technical Conditions" National Standard No. 2 amendment order stipulates that from January 1 this year, newly produced passenger cars in China should be equipped with "EDR" that meets the requirements. This device, commonly known as the car black box, is triggered when the vehicle collides or the speed changes drastically, and the recording begins. Cao Guangping, an independent researcher of new energy vehicles, introduced:
Cao Guangping: In the accident, the driver's behavior of stepping on the brake pedal, EDR will save the brake signal from how many milliamperes to how many milliamps, including deceleration, finally stop, the whole process will be recorded.
In addition to recording the driver's control data, EDR will also record the status of the vehicle, Lu Wenliang, a special researcher in the automotive industry at the Industrial Science and Technology Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Strategic Consulting Institute, introduced:
Lu Wenliang: For example, the speed of the vehicle, the acceleration of the longitudinal and lateral directions, the angle of the steering wheel, the state of the brake throttle, etc., especially when the vehicle with the auxiliary driving function is involved in an accident, EDR can distinguish whether it is the system failure of the vehicle or the human operation error, which helps us to determine the responsibility for the accident.
At present, 99% of new cars listed in the United States are equipped with EDR, and about 10% of new cars in mainland China are equipped. BMW, Mercedes-Benz and other luxury cars, as well as new energy vehicles such as Weilai and BYD, are mostly equipped with EDR, and the average cost is about 1,000 yuan. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Vehicle Association, said that next year's large-scale equipping of new cars with EDR will not cause a rise in car prices.
Cui Dongshu: The cost is relatively low, that is, the concept of 300 to 500 yuan, manufacturers can overcome this impact, will not increase the cost of consumer car purchase.
In the future, the "Rashomon" events involving intelligent driving, such as Tesla brake doors and Weilai assisted driving accidents, are expected to be "hammered" through black box data, but the ownership and use of relevant data still need to be clarified. Currently, only Tesla's EDR data is encrypted, which means it is difficult to interpret without manufacturer authorization and professional tools. In this regard, Guo Qing, a senior partner at Kyoto Law Firm, suggested:
