A 65-year-old man in Ningbo was "blinded" by snow Ophthalmologists: Sunglasses should also be worn for outdoor snow viewing

Ningbo, February 11 (Reporter Chen Jinlian Correspondent Chen Yi) During the Spring Festival, the snow scenery of Ningbo Siming Mountain once became a place where citizens were fascinated.

The 65-year-old Zheng is one of them, and his children take advantage of the Spring Festival holiday to take the family to climb the mountain to see the snow. On the day of the snow viewing, the weather was sunny, and the sun was out, and the snow was full of snow, which was beautiful. In this way, Old Zheng watched the snow naked for nearly half an hour.

After returning home, Lao Zheng felt that his eyes were flowering, his eyes were black, there seemed to be a foreign body in his eyes, and he kept crying. Who knew that the next day when you get up, your eyes will feel like you can't open them, and when you open your eyes, it will hurt a lot, and what's even more terrifying is that you can't see anything! What's going on?

Old Zheng did not know it, on February 8, accompanied by his children, he went to Ningbo Eye Hospital for treatment.

After examination and inquiry, Dr. Yuan Jianshu, executive vice president of the hospital and an ophthalmologist who received the treatment, diagnosed that Lao Zhengde was "snow blindness". Coupled with the fact that Lao Zheng himself has mild macular lesions in his eyes, this time enjoying the snow makes Lao Zheng's eyes "worse".

According to reports, snow blindness is a symptom of temporary blindness caused by strong light stimulation of the retina of the eye. Snow reflects extremely high sunlight, reaching nearly 95%, and looking directly at the snow is equivalent to looking directly at the sun. If a person is outdoors for a long time, the outer cornea of the eye is burned by ultraviolet radiation, resulting in "snow blindness".

Dr. Yuan further explained that the symptoms of snow blindness are very painful eyes, the eyes feel like they are full of wind and sand, the eyes are red, often shed tears, they are very sensitive to light, and it is even difficult to open their eyes. Temporary blindness, usually 5-7 days of treatment will get better, people who have snow blindness need to pay attention to it later, because the next time it will be more likely to appear, if snow blindness occurs many times, it is very dangerous, vision loss, eye diseases will follow, serious will be permanent blindness.

Ophthalmologists remind that the impact of snow on the eyes for a short time is not very large, but the public needs to wear protective sunglasses with anti-ultraviolet function when working or walking outdoors for a long time to prevent the eyes from being burned. If there is a "snow blindness" situation, you can also take self-help: wash your eyes with eye drops or clean water, and then cover your eyes with an eye mask or towel to avoid using the light; if you have contact lenses, beautiful pupils, etc., you must take them off, do not rub your eyes; and finally go to the hospital in time.

Experts also especially remind that snow blindness is age-neutral. It is related to the time and intensity of contact with the snow environment, as long as it is exposed to the snow environment for a long time without protection, it may cause eye damage. Children in the growth and development period, more likely to be damaged, children's eyelids are thinner, children in the same case, the injury will be more serious, do not rule out irreversible damage.
