Meta Quest Hand Interactive SDK and Keyboard Tracking SDK released

Recently, Meta released the "Meta Quest (formerly Oculus Quest)" hand interaction SDK and keyboard tracking SDK. It supports both "Meta Quest" and "Meta Quest 2".

It is reported that the hand interaction SDK supports both hand and gamepad, designed to make it easy for developers to add high-quality hand interaction to VR applications. The SDK supports the ability to use hand tracking to directly/indirectly grab objects, customizable grip posture, gesture detection, pinch scrolling, and more. As of February 2022, the hand interaction SDK has been introduced in some VR applications such as Chess Club VR and ForeVR Darts in advance.

Meta says the Interaction SDK is already in use at Chess Club VR and ForeVR Darts, saying the SDK is "more flexible than traditional interaction frameworks — you can use only the parts you need and integrate them into your existing architecture."

In addition, Quest 2 adds two new keyboards that support tracking: Logitech K830 and Apple Magic Keyboard, users can pair any keyboard through Bluetooth, that is, they can see the 3D model of the keyboard in the home environment of 2D applications such as Oculus Browser.

The Keyboard Tracking SDK allows developers to bring this functionality to their own Unity applications or custom engines. Typically, virtual keyboards type slower and cause more errors, and keyboard tracking SDKs allow them to increase productivity by using a physical keyboard while typing in VR.

It's important to note that while the Unity Asset Store already has an interactive framework available, Meta has now released free alternatives as experimental features, and when apps for these apps are not yet available on the Oculus Store and App Lab, developers can only debug or distribute to platforms like SideQuest.
