Studio Alta, the developer of the VR game A Township Tale, recently announced that it has raised a $12.4 million seed round, which is jointly led by Makers Fund and Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Pioneer Fund, Boost VC, muru-D and Thomas Rice, and Alta said she plans to use the funds to expand her studio and accelerate the development of the game.

Studio Alta, a small, Australian-based indie team that has been working for years on PC to develop its great co-op VR game A Township Tale, has captured the hearts of many, but it still hasn't exploded, in part because the studio only releases games indie, rather than through online stores like SteamVR or Oculus PC.

Through unremitting efforts, A Township Tale successfully landed on PC VR in 2016 and Quest in 2021. Alta said the game "ranked first on the Oculus charts for up to 7 weeks" and that when it debuted it "created a historic engagement metric for the platform."

Tima Anosechkin, CEO and co-founder of Alta, said: "Alta's starting point is a single pursuit: to create a simple world co-founder. This funding has helped us realize this vision and allowed us to expand our team while enabling our partners to scale up and build world-class new technologies. Whether using VR or other platforms, our gaming experience will always be engaging, seamless, and fun, whenever and wherever you are. ”

Tima Anosechkin also gave further information on the studio's priorities and future goals, including hints that the game might make its way into PSVR or PSVR 2.
