On February 2, as a torchbearer of the Winter Olympics who participated in the torch relay, Zhang Ping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, wore the costume of a torchbearer in the morning and came to the Olympic Forest Park to make preparations in advance, just as he usually went to the school classroom and laboratory early to guide students.
"When I learned that I was elected as the Olympic torchbearer, I was both happy and anxious in my heart: I was happy because it was a very glorious thing, to show my image in front of the people of the whole country, especially to participate in large-scale Olympic activities, which was a grand event for peace for all mankind, everyone pursued a happy life, challenged myself to achieve the best results, which was something I was very proud of; at the same time, after all, I was at a certain age, although I had made some achievements in my work, this was compared with the great honor given to me by the party and the country. Relatively speaking, I have no way to return, but I can only do my job well in the future work, and repay the motherland's love for me in terms of physical fitness and scientific research. Zhang Ping said that for the holding of the Winter Olympics, as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Network and Exchange Technology, as early as 2017, relying on the State Key Laboratory, he organized a seminar on "Advanced Communication Technology To Help the Winter Olympics" and mobilized communicators to actively and personally participate in the preparation and construction of the Winter Olympics. Because some Winter Olympic venues are in a harsh natural environment such as complex terrain, severe cold and strong winds, this has become the biggest challenge facing the construction of the Communication Network of the Winter Olympics. He led the scientific research team to undertake the key special project of the Ministry of Science and Technology "Science and Technology Winter Olympics", visited the field many times, and conducted research on the theme of "5G and advanced network communication technology to help the Winter Olympics of Science and Technology", especially based on the field experiments in the competition area, carried out the characteristic parameter processing and modeling theory of radio wave propagation, proposed a wireless channel modeling method to support the complex propagation environment of the Winter Olympics 5G, and accurately portrayed the wireless signal transmission attributes of the 5G mobile communication system in this scenario. At the same time, combined with the needs of the wireless communication environment of the Winter Olympics, we have developed an efficient information transmission technology of multi-point and multi-jump, which provides theoretical basis and technical support for the stable and reliable transmission of the mobile communication system in the links of the Winter Olympic Games and broadcasting.
The "Xue Ruyi" stadium of the National Ski Jumping Center is built according to the mountainous terrain, the arrangement of 217 transmission points of video images is also extremely complex, and the transmission of information has extremely high requirements for real-time security, which also puts forward higher requirements for the transmission capacity of the network. At the same time, 5G signals are also needed to provide the necessary network connectivity for new application scenarios such as ultra-high-definition video and various intelligent services. Relying on the key project of "Reliable 5G Communication and Advanced Network Demonstration Construction under Complex and Extreme Conditions" project of the Key Science and Technology Winter Olympics, the research team has developed multi-band and multi-form 5G base station equipment, and built a 5G full-coverage network that can resist the cold of minus 45 °C, winds above level 10 and ice and snow weather on the snow of the Winter Olympics. It can support high-definition TV screen broadcasting of outdoor ice and snow venues above 2000 meters above sea level, length tracks above 3000 meters, and outdoor ice and snow venues with a vertical drop of more than 830 meters.
According to reports, the research results of scientific researchers can support the ten major applications of three major scenarios based on 5G, such as smart viewing, smart participation, and smart competitions, so as to achieve "5G sharing" and empower the winter Olympics of science and technology. In terms of smart viewing, supported by 5G and ubiquitous intelligent technology, through multi-perspective and VR interactive design, the audience's sense of experience can be greater, for example, on the snowmobile, sleigh or on the athlete's clothing to add this high-definition camera, each audience can experience the speed and passion of the game.
"This is a sports event, but also a show of the power of science and technology. The Beijing Winter Olympics highlighted the support of science and technology for the development of sports, and many hard-core innovative technologies penetrated into it, contributing their own strength to the Winter Olympics. ”
