Founding General Wang Zhen (April 11, 1908-March 12, 1993) served as political commissar of the Third Regiment of the First Independent Division of Hunan and Jiangxi Province, political commissar of the First Independent Division, director of the Political Department of the Red Eighth Army, acting military commissar, acting commander of the Hunan and Jiangxi Military Region, and political commissar of the Red Sixth Army Corps during the fighting years in the Hunan and Jiangxi Soviet District. He was "resolute, sensitive, resolute and decisive, and often led his team to take charge of himself" (Gan Siqi). What is particularly valuable is that at some critical moments of the revolutionary struggle, he was able to uphold principles, seek truth from facts, be upright, and bravely take risks.
In February 1932, the General Headquarters of the Hunan and Jiangxi Military Region was established, and Wang Zhen was appointed as the political commissar of the First Independent Division of the Hunan and Jiangxi Red Army. At this time, the Hunan and Jiangxi revolutionary base areas were in a period of vigorous development, and great achievements were made in the agrarian revolution, political power building, and the war against "encirclement and suppression." However, due to the influence of Wang Ming's "leftist" mistakes, a demonic wind of suppression and expansion blew into the Hunan and Jiangxi Soviet regions, and for a time, it hurt many good comrades who were loyal to the revolution.

In the spring of 1932, the Hunan and Jiangxi Provincial Security Bureau made a credulous confession, saying that Zhang Pinghua, secretary of the Youxian County Party Committee, was an "AB regiment" and that he should be immediately arrested and dealt with, and the Youxian County Party Committee should be reorganized. At that time, the county party committee of Yuxian County was hundreds of miles away from the large Soviet area in the Hunan and Jiangxi border areas, and it was not possible to send a random person to act effectively. Therefore, after serious consideration, the Hunan and Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee decided to send Wang Zhen, political commissar of the First Independent Division of the Hunan and Jiangxi Red Army, to carry out this post.
After Wang Zhen was instructed, he led a guard company and a set of personnel who were about to take over the work of the county party committee and rushed to Shangjiudu, the seat of the county party committee. In the first two days, Wang Zhen did not talk to Zhang Pinghua or arrest him, but went deep into the cadres and masses to investigate and study. Through investigation, he learned that Zhang Pinghua had been very heroic in the struggle against the enemy and had been able to endure hardships in his work, and that during his tenure as secretary of the Youxian County CPC Committee, he had led the people of the Soviet District of Youxian County in carrying out armed struggles and the construction of various base areas, and had also made great achievements. The most important thing is that there are already 7 comrades in their family who have sacrificed their precious lives for the revolution, how can such comrades be "AB regiments"?

Wang Zhen remembered that in November 1931, when he and Yuan Desheng went to Ruijin to attend the First All-Soviet Congress, and when Mao Zedong, chairman of the Soviet Central Government, met with him, he specifically talked about the wrongful killing of Wang Zuo and Yuan Wencai by the Ganxi Special Committee in 1930, and clearly instructed that we should continue to do a good job in dealing with the aftermath, and said that the revolution should develop in waves, and that we should not rush to achieve results, and we should not expand the problem of suppressing the rebellion. The reality in front of him, the decision of the provincial party committee, and Chairman Mao's teachings made Wang Zhen think about it repeatedly. In the end, he made up his mind that Zhang Pinghua could not be arrested and that proper arrangements should be made.
So on the third day, Wang Zhen met Zhang Pinghua. After the meeting, Wang Zhen made a bold decision, he told Zhang Pinghua that the organization saw that he was wearing many hats and had some hard work, so he decided to dismiss him from the post of secretary of the county party committee and go to the county Red Guard Brigade to concentrate on the work of party representatives.
Zhang Pinghua did not have the slightest doubt about Wang Zhen's remarks, and after completing the formalities for handing over the work with the new comrades, he happily went to the county Red Guard Brigade to take up his post.

At that time, some of the comrades who went to Yanxian County sweated for Wang Zhen, fearing that if they did not carry out the instructions of the provincial party committee and the provincial security bureau, they would be labeled as "sympathizing with the counter-revolution and harboring the AB regiment" and would suffer doom. In this regard, Wang Zhen said frankly: "Communist Party members must dare to take risks, be responsible, and not know that they are wrong, but still insist on making mistakes." If we arrest Zhang Pinghua and reorganize the Youxian County Party Committee, how many comrades will be hurt and how much loss will we bring to the Youxian Soviet District! I believe that the provincial party committee and the Provincial Security Bureau will agree to our approach after learning the truth. ”
After Wang Zhen led the team back to Yongxin, he reported Zhang Pinghua's situation in detail to the provincial party committee, and the provincial party committee agreed with Wang Zhen's opinion and revoked the original decision.
Regarding this matter, Zhang Pinghua has been thinking for a long time that it is a "normal organizational transfer". It wasn't until 1942, during the Yan'an Rectification Movement, that the truth of the matter was known.
It was at a forum to criticize Wang Ming's "leftist" mistakes, and the central leading comrades pointed out the mistakes of many good comrades who had wrongly grasped the mistakes of many good comrades in the expansion of the anti-rebellion movement in the Soviet areas in those years. Wang Zhen smiled and explained: I did some investigations back then, and judging from the results of the investigations, Zhang Pinghua is a good comrade, because he can insist on maintaining the revolutionary base area in such a difficult environment, and he is definitely not like a counterrevolutionary!
Later, whenever he recalled this period of the past, Zhang Pinghua said with great emotion: "Thanks to Comrade Wang Zhen, who insisted on investigation and research, sought truth from facts, and bravely took risks, otherwise, it would not have been necessary to send a thug of Wang Ming's line, even if I sent a comrade who did not dare to be responsible, I would have met Marx as early as 1932." ”
