Professor Shen Chunhua returned to China to join the State Key Laboratory of Computer-Aided Design and Graphics (CAD&CG) at Zhejiang University. This laboratory is led by Academician Pan Yunhe, including He Xiaofei, Zhou Kun and other computer giants.

According to industry media, Shen Chunhua previously served as a professor of computer science at the University of Adelaide in Australia. The Chinese scientist, who graduated from Nanjing University with a bachelor's degree and later a PhD from the University of Adelaide, focuses on machine learning and computer vision, whose ultimate goal is to build a visual system with human expression.

In 2012, Shen Chunhua was awarded the title of Future Scholar of the Australian Research Council. In addition to his teaching position, he is also the Research Leader of the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Robotic Vision. Shen Chunhua was listed as the Australian Lifetime Achievement Award for Scientific Research last year and was one of the five winners of the Engineering and Computer Awards.

According to CSRanking, Shen Chunhua is the australian scholar who has published the most papers at the top three top conferences in computer vision in the past 10 years. According to the analysis of industry media, Shen Chunhua's scientific research results and outputs are one of the main reasons why the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), affiliated with the University of Adelaide, can rank 4th in the world on CSRanking.

Professor Shen Chunhua's most famous research focuses on object detection and semantic segmentation.

One of them is the FCOS (Fully Convolutional One-Stage Object Detection) object detection algorithm, which currently has 1.3k+ citations. This is an anchorless object detection model based on FCN algorithm, which realizes problems such as fewer design parameters, optimization hyperparameters, and complex calculations by removing the anchoring frame commonly used in object detection models such as YOLO and SSD.

In addition, Professor Shen Chunhua also proposed a RefineNet model earlier (2017), and the number of citations has reached 2k+. This is a semantic segmentation model based on the ResNet residual idea, which makes the semantic segmentation task more accurate by adopting the characteristics of each level.

In addition to the paper, Shen Chunhua's team also contributed a number of open source tools, the most famous of which is AdelaiDet. This is an open source multi-instance detection application toolbox, based on Thetectron2 development, including a lot of algorithm work such as SOLO, FCOS, etc., many mobile phone manufacturers have used the above model to optimize some of the image functions.
