In ontario, Canada, where one in five households is infected, most want to lift the restrictions

According to a recent survey, Omicron has spread rapidly across the country since last December, especially during the Christmas season, when infection rates climb rapidly in many areas. Now, after the peak of infection, more than half want to lift all restrictions and return to normal life before the epidemic.

The survey was conducted by the Angus Reid Institute. According to statistics, from December 1, 2021, at least 1 in every five households (about 21%) will be infected. Of those, 36 percent said the infection occurred within the first two weeks of January after the Christmas holidays, while 42 percent said they were infected during December.

In terms of household infection rates in the provinces, Quebec has the highest infection rate and the Atlantic provinces have the lowest. Of those surveyed in Ontario, 22 percent said at least 1 adult or child in their home had been infected since December 1, 2021.

The report also found that nine per cent of Canadians were diagnosed by using rapid tests at home or by visiting test centers for PCR testing, starting December 1 last year. Another 4 per cent said they were sure they had had COVID-19 between December and early January because testing was limited and the virus spread in the community so quickly that many Canadians were told they were infected if they developed suspected symptoms.

There are now signs that Omicron infection in Ontario has peaked, with a majority of people favoring a return to pre-pandemic normalcy. The report found that more than half (54 percent) of respondents said all COVID-19 restrictions should be lifted, a significant increase from early January, when only 15 percent agreed with the approach.

More than half of respondents (52 percent) said those infected had relatively mild COVID-19 symptoms, and 1 percent said they had a severe illness and needed to be hospitalized.

In the past two months, four out of five infected respondents said they had at least four COVID-19-related symptoms. 86 percent of them said they couldn't get tested but were sure they had COVID-19.

This online survey was conducted between 17 and 28 January 2022. The questionnaire randomly surveyed 1688 Canadian adults among the members of the Angus Reid Forum, with a margin of error of around 2.5 per cent.
