According to reports, in response to netizens' messages about "when can the caller ID fee be cancelled", the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology replied on the "leadership message board" of the people's network that the caller ID fee is not priced by the government, and currently only exists in some of the old package users who have not been transferred and have been discontinued, accounting for less than 2%, and will gradually cancel the caller ID fee within 3-5 years.

Charged for caller ID? Many people may not have heard of this paid program, but it really exists in people's daily lives. Previously, mobile phone roaming charges have been cancelled after full discussion, but caller ID charges still exist, although the current proportion of users is relatively low, but the rationality of this charge is still questioned.

On the one hand, because with the rapid development of related technologies in the field of continental communications, the cost of this basic service of caller ID is actually very low, and some operators have included it in the package, in this case, it is obviously inappropriate to continue to charge for this project.

On the other hand, the quality of caller ID quality is questionable. For example, in daily life, many scam calls often harass users with a variety of vests, in this process, the disclosure information of the caller ID is often not accurate, but after the fact, the operator is almost never responsible.

This is also the reason why many people criticize the "caller ID charge" - since the service is not in place, it is not reasonable to still charge the relevant fee. Moreover, many users do not understand the details of the cost in this process.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that it will continue to gradually cancel caller ID fees in 3-5 years by encouraging market competition and strengthening policy guidance. This has led many people to see the hope of completely eliminating this additional fee. Of course, we also hope that this time period can be shorter.

In 2014, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission issued a document to liberalize all telecommunications service tariffs and implement market regulation, which was formulated by telecommunications companies according to market conditions and user needs, and was no longer priced by the government. That is to say, in the process of canceling the caller ID fee, respecting the law of the market is an "iron law" that must be observed, and the government cannot intervene too much, which is one of the reasons why the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has stated that it will be gradually cancelled in 3-5 years.

From the operational point of view, the impact of the cancellation of caller ID fees on the revenue of the three major operators is actually not large. First, since 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has promoted basic telecommunications enterprises to give away or include caller ID services in new and on-sale packages, no longer charge additional fees, and gradually promote the migration of existing users. Second, professionals in the field of telecommunications said that after years of technological development, the current cost of caller ID is not high. Therefore, no matter from which point of view, the cancellation of the caller ID fee should be sooner rather than later.

Now, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has clearly stated that it is necessary to gradually cancel the caller ID fee, then the three major operators may wish to take action as soon as possible and actively implement the relevant policy requirements of "speeding up and reducing fees" to benefit the people. Previously, the cancellation of long-distance roaming charges and other charges for mobile phones was well received, and the cancellation of caller ID charges by operators was also really beneficial to the people.
