Wang Zhiqin of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology: It is expected that the total number of 5G base stations will exceed 2 million in 2022

At the "5G Continuous Evolution, Building a 5Gigaverse & 5Green Society" conference held during the "2022 Huawei Global Analyst Conference (HAS 2022)", Wang Zhiqin, vice president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, delivered a speech saying that at present, 5G technology standards are advancing to R18, and the direction of evolution is gradually clear.

Wang Zhiqin of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology: It is expected that the total number of 5G base stations will exceed 2 million in 2022

Wang Zhiqin proposed: "Thanks to the support of policies, the construction of network capabilities, and the adherence to high-quality network development, China's 5G networks, users and applications have developed rapidly, and promoted the rapid maturity of the global 5G industry." Facing the future, it is necessary to continue to enhance the capabilities of 5G networks, reserve more large-bandwidth spectrum, orderly promote the industrial rhythm, expand the boundaries of 5G applications, and promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy. ”

According to Wang Zhiqin, by the end of 2021, the mainland has built more than 1.42 million 5G base stations, covering all prefecture-level cities, 98% of counties and districts, with 10.1 5G base stations per 10,000 people; this year, 600,000 new 5G base stations are expected, and the total number of 5G base stations will exceed 2 million. At the same time, the co-construction and sharing has formed a "2+2" pattern (China Telecom and China Unicom co-construction and sharing, China Mobile and China Radio and Television co-construction and sharing), and currently more than 640,000 shared base stations have been co-built, saving more than 100 billion yuan in construction costs and saving more than 12 billion kWh of electricity per year. By the end of 2021, the total number of mobile phone users in the mainland will reach 1.643 billion, of which the number of 5G connections will exceed 500 million, and the penetration rate of 5G users in China will be close to 30%, accounting for about 70% of the total number of global 5G users.

The development of the 5G personal market remains active, and the operator/Internet enterprise is fully laid out. By the end of 2021, China's three major operators will have 5G diversion accounting for more than 20% of total mobile traffic. Guangdong Mobile, Zhejiang Mobile, Shenzhen Telecom, Shanghai Telecom, Beijing Unicom and other key areas account for more than 30% of mobile traffic. The average 5G DOU of Chinese consumers exceeds 21GB, which is about 1.6 times that of the average DOU of mobile Internet users in the same period, and the utilization rate of 5G networks continues to increase. Operators, Internet companies, cultural tourism, media industry leaders and other enterprises actively promote the development of ultra-high-definition video, cloud games, AR & VR and other content, hardware development and application promotion.

The development of 5G industry applications has entered the "fast lane", and the pilot applications have begun to replicate on a large scale. The "Bloom Cup" 5G Application Innovation Competition has been held for four consecutive years, with the number of participating projects increasing from 330 in 2018 to 4,289 in 2020, and increasing to 12,000 in 2021. The participating projects cover more than 10 fields such as industrial Internet, medical and health services, intelligent transportation, smart finance, sports and entertainment.
