Breaking Samsung Exclusivity? Spread the word BOE grab the iPhone 15 high-end panel order

At Apple's annual pace, Apple will launch the iPhone 15 in 2023. According to the Korean media "The Elec", the panel manufacturer BOE is striving to become the OLED panel supplier of the iPhone 15 Pro, pointing to the high-end order of the iPhone 15 Pro.

"The Elec" reported that sources revealed that BOE plans to produce low-temperature polyoxide (LTPO) OLED screens at the Chongqing B12 factory, featuring support for high update rates of 120Hz, powered in the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

BOE's Chongqing B12 plant is divided into three phases of production lines, the first phase of which will begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2021, the second phase of the line will be put into operation in the first half of 2022, and the third phase will be put into operation in the second half of the year, with a final total production capacity of 48,000 substrates per month. In the third phase of the production line, a two-layer Tandem structure is also used to extend the life of the product by stacking two OLED light-emitting layers.

At present, BOE has entered the Apple iPhone panel supply chain, but it is limited to lower-order low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) OLED panels. Apple launched the iPhone 13 series in 2021, the high-end Pro style uses LTPO OLED panels, and South Korean panel giant Samsung Display is the exclusive supplier. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini use the LTPS OLED panel.

Korean media previously broke the news that Apple will launch the iPhone 14 Pro model in 2022 for the first time to use a digging screen, including the iPhone Pro with a screen of 6.06 inches, and the 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max, the two models will be equipped with a digging screen, that is, the screen opening is placed in the front lens, which can greatly increase the screen ratio and bid farewell to the criticized screen.

Apple expects to ship nearly 200 million OLED iPhones in 2022, while BOE is expected to account for 20% of the supply, or 40 million to 50 million units.

In 2021, JD.com supplied Apple with 15 million to 16 million iPhone OLED panels, well above expectations.
