A new impetus for carbon reduction and emission reduction in the automotive industry
Since the "double carbon" goal in 2020, to the promulgation of the "1 + N" top-level design in 2021, and then to the recent Central Economic Work Conference proposed to "realize the transformation of energy consumption 'double control' to carbon emissions 'double control' as soon as possible, and new renewable energy and raw material energy use are not included in the total energy consumption control", "double carbon" has become one of the hottest topics at present.
"Carbon peak in 2030, carbon neutrality in 2060, the responsibility is arduous, the situation is grim, and there is not much time left for us." Li Yizhong said that carbon reduction and emission reduction are responsible.
In addition to industries that need to directly burn fossil energy, the machinery manufacturing industry uses a lot of electricity, materials, and indirect carbon dioxide emissions, and also has heavy tasks and unshirkable responsibilities. Focusing on the automotive field, it is necessary to measure and count the carbon emissions contained in the whole life cycle of automobiles in an all-round and whole-process manner from manufacturing and use to scrapping, dismantling and recycling, so as to further enhance the sense of responsibility of the industry, fully implement various carbon reduction and emission reduction tests, and contribute to "double carbon".
Li Yizhong pointed out that China's automobile production and ownership rank first in the world. According to statistics, at present, the annual carbon dioxide emissions of road traffic in the mainland are 750 million tons, accounting for about 7% of the country, which is one of the key industries to reduce carbon emissions.
"Improving the economy of fuel vehicles is still an important aspect of reducing carbon emissions." Li Yizhong said that in 2020, the number of cars in the mainland will be 280 million, of which the number of new energy vehicles will be less than 5 million, and fuel vehicles will account for 98.2% of the total number of cars. It is estimated that by 2030, fuel vehicles will still account for 80% of the mainland car ownership, and the reduction of energy consumption of fuel vehicles will not be relaxed.
At present, there is still a gap between the mainland automobile fuel-saving standards and the international level. Li Yizhong proposed that the thermal efficiency of the engine and the reduction of fuel consumption can be improved by improving energy-saving technology, gasoline and diesel quality.
Li Yizhong said that in the medium and long term, pure electric vehicles will become the main aspect of the "double carbon" target. Pure electric vehicles do not directly emit carbon dioxide in the use process, and with the increase in the proportion of non-fossil energy in continental electricity, the emission reduction effect of such vehicles will become more and more obvious. At the same time, commercial vehicles should use "green hydrogen" hydrogen fuel cells.
He believes that with the wave of vigorous development of new energy vehicles in the world, 16 multinational car companies such as Daimler, BMW, and Toyota have successively issued their own carbon reduction plans, with electric vehicles, networking, and intelligence as the main means, and have increased research and development. Mainland new energy vehicles will show a spurt of growth in 2021, with production expected to exceed 3.6 million, an increase of 1.7 times, and a penetration rate of 14%. After 10 years, mainland new energy vehicles have entered a period of growth.
"The third path to carbon reduction and emission reduction in the automotive industry is from automobile manufacturing to scrapping and recycling of the whole life cycle of lightweight, using high-strength lightweight materials such as aluminum alloys or carbon fibers to improve the manufacturing process." Li Yizhong proposed that pure electric vehicles should also pay attention to the transformation of power batteries and reduce their manufacturing energy consumption.
The end-of-life of batteries and vehicles can also make a great contribution to carbon reduction and emission reduction. Li Yizhong said that the current situation of vehicle recycling and scrapping in the mainland is not ideal, due to unclear regulations and inadequate compensation, the scrapping rate of mainland automobiles is only 2.1%, lower than the international level of 5%, and it is urgent to accelerate the scrapping of waste vehicles.
Mainland intelligent networked vehicles are in the stage of rapid technological evolution and industrial acceleration layout, and many mainstream vehicle manufacturers have achieved mass production with L2 level of auxiliary driving functions. Li Yizhong said that the penetration rate of the intelligent and connected passenger car market is predicted to reach about 7% in 2021. At the same time, the assisted driving technology is further mature, and it is expected that this year will gradually deploy the application of L3 and L4 automatic driving functions, and the level of intelligent networked vehicles in the mainland is basically synchronized with developed countries.
"When we first developed smart connected vehicles, we didn't think about the realization of carbon reduction and emission reduction, carbon peaking and carbon neutrality ('double carbon"), and now I want to make this one of the main purposes of the intelligent networked vehicle industry. This is a historical process. This is Li Yizhong's intuitive feeling after visiting the Hengyang smart transportation project.
Intelligent networked vehicles promote the realization of "double carbon"
Intelligent connected vehicles are the innovative driving force for vehicle carbon reduction and emission reduction. Li Yizhong explained that intelligent networked vehicles have increased the efficiency of transportation travel by 20%-30%, so as to achieve the purpose of energy saving, carbon reduction and emission reduction. However, the contribution of specific intelligent connected vehicles to the realization of "double carbon" is still unknown.
He suggested that in future experiments, the Mushroom Car Association could use this as a scientific research topic to calculate its energy consumption and reduce its carbon footprint. At the same time, calculate the bills of input and output, do not blindly pass on the cost to consumers, and let consumers enjoy the dividends brought by intelligent networking.
Li Yizhong also stressed the issue of security. "Accidents in intelligent connected cars should be 100% eliminated, not 90%."
How to achieve safe, efficient and energy-saving unmanned driving to achieve carbon reduction and emission reduction?
Li Yizhong proposed that improving the level of intelligence of bicycles is the foundation. The use of advanced environmental perception technology, decision-making technology, improve the car's perception system, planning and control system, and intelligent cockpit and other digital intelligence level, to ensure the safety of car functions and the safety of data information.
Secondly, it is necessary to realize network empowerment, adopt new technologies such as information interaction, build the perception system of roads and facilities, create a smart travel platform, and use the high-precision map to network the on-board intelligent platform with the car city network and the cloud platform to achieve vehicle-road collaboration and precise positioning.
In addition, it is also necessary to grasp the standard of access, to establish a simulation test of intelligent vehicles, and a test on the actual channel of the experimental area, so as to verify and evaluate whether the driving ability in various scenarios is safe, reliable, efficient and energy-saving, and lay the foundation for commercial application through demonstration applications. Finally, ensure the supply of chips.
Li Yizhong said that in the process of building the intelligent and connected automobile industry, new car-making forces, Internet companies and related technology companies should give full play to their advantages in technology, capital and talent, and be deeply integrated with the automobile manufacturing industry as an important driving force. At present, the model has achieved results in a number of pilot cities, promoting carbon reduction and emission reduction.
Taking Hengyang as an example, in order to solve traffic congestion and create smart transportation, Hengyang has strengthened the construction of infrastructure, vehicle intelligence and urban intelligence for many years, and cooperated with enterprises to land the country's first city-scale automatic driving project, forming a digital base for urban transportation, realizing the digitization of transportation infrastructure, traffic elements, traffic potential and other full elements, and autonomous vehicles have penetrated into the main roads of the city and have been commercialized one after another.
"The industry estimates that by 2030, the number of mainland vehicles will be 450 million, of which new energy vehicles will increase from 4.92 million to 80 million, and the carbon dioxide emissions of road transportation will also be controlled from the current 750 million tons to no more than 1 billion tons." In 2030, the carbon emissions of the Road Transport Department will peak and decline, and this goal will be completed ahead of schedule after unremitting efforts, thus creating conditions for carbon neutrality. The automotive industry should contribute even more to this. Li Yizhong said.
