Toyota Motor Corporation (TM.US) is one step further away from its target of 9 million vehicles

Zhitong Finance APP learned that Toyota Motor (TM. US) announced that some production lines at the Aichi Prefecture plant will be suspended from August 19 to 22, which is expected to affect the production of 1,500 vehicles, including Toyota's popular Camry sedan, which is also one of the models produced at the Aichi Prefecture plant.

It is reported that this is Toyota Motor's latest shutdown measure, at a time when the new crown pneumonia epidemic is raging in Asia. Previously, due to the outbreak of the epidemic in the port of Beijing, Tianjin near Beijing was undergoing large-scale screening, and Toyota had announced the suspension of work at the Tianjin plant.

Notably, Kazunari Kumakura, head of Toyota's purchasing division, said Tuesday that it was "very difficult" to achieve the goal of producing 9 million vehicles in the fiscal year ending march due to supply chain challenges, including chip shortages.

Toyota also said that while the company hopes to produce a large number of cars in March and the new fiscal year starting in April, "there are still risks in them, and as the new coronavirus continues to spread, the future is difficult to predict." Toyota fell 4.7 percent on Wednesday, its biggest intraday drop since March 2020, before closing down 2.43 percent at $202.42.

In addition, Toyota's competitor Honda Motor (HMC. US) said today that the Suzuka plant near Mie Prefecture is expected to resume work in early February and will restore about 90% of its production capacity, adding that the cut is related to supply chain issues such as global chip shortages and outbreaks in overseas factories.

Nissan Motor (NSANY. US) CEO Makoto Uchida said on the same day that production is on the recovery track, although the supply chain is still tight and still brings uncertainty.
