Liu Xingcan, a well-known Czech literary translator, retired cadre of the People's Literature Publishing House, and editor of the Foreign Literature Editorial Office, died of a sudden heart attack at 16:00 on September 25, 2021 in Canada at the age of 84.
Liu Xingcan's translation of the Adventures of a Good Soldier shuai ke from the original text is the first Chinese translation from Czech.

In 1954, Liu Xingcan went to Czechoslovakia to study language and literature, and graduated from the Department of Czech Language and Literature of Charles University in Prague, majoring in Czech Literature. He returned to China in 1960. He has successively served as a cadre of the China-Czech Cultural Exchange and China-Czech Friendship Association of the China-Czech Cultural Liaison Committee, the head of the Czech language teaching and research team of the Department of Eastern European Languages of Beijing Second Chinese College, and the editor, deputy editor and editor of the People's Literature Publishing House. In 1990, he was awarded the Niezver Prize in Czechoslovakia.
