With curiosity and reverence, I opened Ma Lao's works, and a series of exciting and magnificent pictures spread out in front of me...
The bloody years are literal
In 1938, in front of the bright and blazing party flag, the young party member Ma Qianmu solemnly swore an oath in front of the party flag, after which he changed his name to "Ma Zhitu", taking the meaning of "finding the right path, the old horse knowing the way", and from then on embarked on a stormy journey of seeking up and down the revolutionary cause.
On the way forward, he was always faced with the struggle between life and death, the war of blood and fire. From the enlightenment of new and old education to the dream of industrial salvation of the country, from the outbreak of the "9.18 Incident" to the participation in the "1.29" student movement, from joining the "Secret Student Federation Group" to wading through mountains and waters and finally finding the party organization, faith has been imperceptibly immersed in the bones and blood.
In his novels, the stories of struggle staged every day make people read sadly -- the old third sister who waited in the field for three days and three nights without eating or drinking in order to inform him of his timely transfer; the peasant soldiers who went to the battlefield lost their arms but were happy from the bottom of their hearts; on the way to keep the revolutionary fire, Ma Zhitu was almost buried alive because he was not familiar with the place of life and could not dock with the local organization to clear the clues, and there were also days and nights when the Japanese invading army frantically suppressed...
The depictions in these smokes are like a suite of life trickling under Ma Zhitu's pen, and the words are like faces. His novels "The Old Third Sister", "Back", "The Little Traffic Officer" and the long "Qingjiang Zhuang Song" are all based on the revolutionary life of this period.
However, how do we translate the inner thoughts of such a revolutionary and writer into a visual presentation?
In the words of director Liang Bibo, "You have to enter his world and possess him on you in order to feel empathy." To that end, we embarked on a two-year-long trail.
Trail Trail In the heat of the day
Hubei is the most important place in Ma Lao's revolutionary career. Our film crew of four people drove in full gear and lived a life of eating, working and rhythm.
Wuhan is our starting point, in a month and a half of external shooting time, we went all the way to the west, a total of 8 counties, until the filming to Ma Lao's birthplace of Chongqing.

This is where Ma Zhitu and his wife Liu Huixin married, and where his ex-wife and comrade-in-arms He Gongwei were killed by the Kuomintang. His love and hatred echoed here.
In 1938, Ma Zhitu, who was sent to Enshi as the secretary of the Shibat Party Committee, married his lovers who were also engaged in underground work under Zhang Luo, an enthusiastic fellow countryman, and began the life course of fighting together. However, the good times did not last long, and the anti-communist upsurge of the Kuomintang soon swept in, his wife was arrested, his daughter was separated, and Ma Zhitu moved forward with great grief and burden.
We photographed the place where Liu Huixin was imprisoned and executed and her cemetery in Enshi, where the heavens and the earth are still there, and the soul of Fang is eternal. Ma Lao's "Qingjiang Zhuang Song" tells the story of this real revolutionary experience. Looking at Tsukagami's departure from the grass, I was born in the era of peace, and I was shocked by the revolutionary enthusiasm brought by the faith of this generation.
Against the scorching heat of the heat, the car traveled to Chongqing Zhong County.
Led by the locals, we came to the place where Ma Zhitu was born, and the old mansion of many years ago has been flooded due to the construction of the Three Gorges Reservoir, and only the bricks and tiles left behind in the corners of the old land are faintly visible, as if you can imagine ma Zhitu, who was enlightened when he was a child, sitting in front of the window and chanting.
At this point, our research will also come to an end, but the revolutionary infection of benevolent people has not receded for a long time.
The journey of unrepentant eternal spirit
In the more than two years since the production of this documentary "Centennial Master - Ma Zhitu", due to the continuous outbreak of the epidemic and the high level of ma's old age, we have not had much contact with him, but his story and his spirit have been with us every day. Ma Lao, who is now 108 years old, has announced that he has sealed his pen, but his spirit of "the direction of his heart, although he died nine times, he still has no regrets" for the revolution and the country is worthy of every one of us to study diligently and always remember.

The completed documentary "100 Years of Masters" has been broadcast on CCTV (one set, three sets, four sets, nine sets, ten sets, fifteen sets, discovery channels, international channels), China Education Television, provincial satellite television, overseas television stations and other 134 TV stations at home and abroad, which have been widely praised and have repeatedly set a new high in the ratings of similar documentaries.
