This person's name was "Li Yu'an", he was a combat hero and special meritorious hero of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army; after returning to China, he hid his fame for 40 years, and it was not until his later years that he revealed his identity as a soldier for his son.

Li Yu'an was born in 1924 to a poor peasant family in Taiqian County, Henan Province. At the age of 16, Li Yu'an was forced by life to go to the northeast to work as a hard worker.
However, despite the hard work every day, I still can't eat enough. Coupled with the fact that it was a time of war and chaos, it was often possible for invaders to wantonly kill his compatriots, which made it even more difficult for him to calm down and work.

In 1946, Li Yu'an officially joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army, determined to dedicate his share to the establishment of New China.
Soon after joining the army, Li Yu'an soon ushered in the first battle of his military career- the "Battle of Siping", and in this battle, Li Yu'an was awarded the first class merit for his bravery in battle.
Subsequently, he won more than 10 battle achievements in many large and small battles, such as the Battle of Liaoxi, the Battle of Pingjin, and the Battle of Crossing the River. Li Yu'an, who had just joined the army for a few years, had achieved so many achievements, which was really enviable.

On June 25, 1950, the Korean War broke out! In order to cope with the situation of the Korean War and to safeguard the security of China's northeast border, China decided to send troops to aid The DPRK.
On October 19, 1950, Li Yu'an, then deputy squad leader of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 335th Regiment, 112th Division, 38th Army of the Chinese Volunteer Army, crossed the Yalu River with his army and rushed to Korea.
In the early morning of November 30, Li Yu'an's 3rd connection was ordered by his superiors to plunge into the rear of the enemy and strive to reach "Songbone Peak" within the specified time to block the Ninth Regiment of the US Second Division, which was fleeing south.

In addition, in accordance with the lessons of the first campaign, our army decided to adopt the method of "two-tiered campaign roundabout" on the western front, with the Thirty-eighth Army and the Forty-second Army, breaking through from the weak points of the enemy's flank and plunging deep into the enemy's depths to block the enemy's retreat. Then, with the strength of the main four armies coordinated from the front, the tactical division and encirclement were implemented, and the enemy was annihilated one by one.
Since the launch of the second campaign on November 6, 1950, the "United Nations Army" led by the US army has been hit hard by our army, so it has fled south from all lines.
At that time, the US Second Division, which had been severely damaged by the 40th Army of our Volunteer Army on the Cheongcheon River front, was now fleeing south from Xinxingdong by car.
Located about 1 km south of the Valjeon River and about 1 km north of Yonggen-ri in North Korea, Songku-yeong-ri is the throat of the road from Junyu-ri to Pyongyang. Therefore, whether or not pine bone peak can be defended is the key to the victory of the second battle.
Therefore, in order to buy time for the large troops to gather and annihilate the enemy, Li Yu'an's 335th Regiment and three companies of the first battalion were ordered to seize the nameless heights on the north side of Songkuo Peak in order to intercept the enemy.
At about 6:30 a.m. on November 30, after three companies had defeated the enemy's small units, they climbed all the way up the bare and nameless heights, but before they could build the fortifications, they had a "face-to-face" with the US Second Division.
At that time, more than 100 officers and men of our three companies were equipped with only rifles, machine guns, grenades, and other "light" weapons, while in addition to the automatic rifles, machine guns, and grenades in their hands, the US army also had more than a dozen aircraft, dozens of cannons, and dozens of tanks.
The most fatal thing is that the nameless highlands garrisoned by the three companies are bare and there is no danger to defend.

As soon as the enemy car approached the front of the three companies' positions, the company commander Dai Ruyi gave an order, and the machine gunners, bazooka men, and demolition teams launched an onslaught on the enemy. Suddenly, dozens of cars and tanks on the road burned up, and the enemy began to jump out of the car and flee in all directions, in a mess.
Half an hour later, the U.S. army, unwilling to be defeated, launched another attack on our positions under the cover of aircraft and tanks, and as a result, five consecutive attacks were repulsed by our army.
Of course, while inflicting huge losses on the enemy, our army's losses are not small, and if trenches are not set up, then after several charges by the enemy, our army will face the danger of being completely annihilated.
Then, under the leadership of company commander Dai Ruyi, the soldiers took advantage of the gap between the enemy's attacks and urgently built fortifications to prepare for a protracted war with the enemy.
All the soldiers of the company were determined to die, and vowed to coexist and die with the position!
A few hours later, the enemy began to increase its troops in large numbers! Before launching the attack, the enemy first covered our positions with heavy artillery fire. Suddenly, the entire position was burned to the ground.
During the battle, company commander Dai Ruyi was unfortunately shot and killed, and deputy company commander Yang Wenhai was also seriously wounded, but he continued to command the battle.
Seeing that our army's position could not be attacked for a long time, and at this time, the large troops of our army were beginning to encircle step by step from all directions, and the enemy's desire to break through became stronger and stronger, and then he once again gathered 18 tanks, dozens of cannons, and more than 30 aircraft to carry out a wild bombardment of our three company positions for more than 40 minutes, and then organized infantry to carry out a surprise attack in a vain attempt to break through from here.
However, all the soldiers in my three companies will not retreat from the battle, and each soldier has a great belief in his heart - man is in the position! When the bullets were finished, the soldiers took grenades and explosive canisters and rushed towards the enemy group...
During the battle, Li Yu'an, as the deputy squad leader of the 3rd Company, showed great bravery, and after the death of the platoon leader, he also commanded the battle on behalf of the platoon leader.
The soldiers fought bravely for more than 8 hours, repelled five vicious counterattacks by the enemy, killed and wounded more than 600 enemy prisoners, and lost six to one between the enemy and us. Under the strenuous resistance of our soldiers, the US Second Division was never able to advance half a step, and made a special contribution to the "pockets" of the volunteer army to gather and annihilate the enemy who fled.
This is the famous Battle of Songbone Peak in the history of the "War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea."

But the truth is that Li Yu'an did not sacrifice, he was lucky to survive!
During the Battle of Songbone Peak, enemy bullets pierced Li Yu'an's chest, and after he was seriously injured, he fell into a coma. That night, he woke up and was spotted by a commander of the Korean People's Army who was clearing the battlefield, carried him to a nearby house, and was subsequently taken in and treated by our volunteer troops.
After more than half a year of treatment and recovery, Li Yu'an's injuries were only improved, but his chest and back also left two bowl-sized scars, and he could no longer stay on the front line to continue fighting!

In July 1952, Li Yu'an was sent back to China, and after demobilization, he worked as a worker in the grain depot in Xinglong Town, Bayan County, Heilongjiang. When he first arrived at the grain depot, the leader saw that Li Yu'an was seriously injured, so he arranged a relatively easy job for him -- guarding the grain depot.
Later, after his physical condition improved, he successively served as a load supervisor, a processer, a weight inspector, a custodian, etc., but no matter what kind of position he held, he was strict with himself, never considered personal gains and losses, and did not pursue personal treatment, and wholeheartedly shared worries for the party and the country.
For example, when he was working as a weight inspector, some grain sellers often sent him gifts such as pork and noodles, hoping that he could "raise his hands high" on the pounds. However, every time he encountered such a situation, Li Yu'an stared at them with wide eyes and scolded:
"Hurry up and take these things away for me, trying to take advantage of the country through me, there is no way!"
In the eyes of these grain sellers, Li Yu'an seems to be a bit "unkind", but he has to admire his fair and just attitude and principle of doing things, so everyone evaluates him as: "Old Li is a fair scale." ”
Li Yu'an has been working in the inspection team for 20 years, and has always been conscientious and meticulous, passing more than 50 million kilograms of grain from his hands every year, but there has never been a shortage of two pounds.
When he was demobilized in 1952, Li Yu'an's monthly salary was only 46 yuan, which rose to 52.5 yuan in 1965, 59.6 yuan in 1984, and was still this salary until his retirement in 1980.
Of course, during this period, Li Yu'an originally had several salary increases and opportunities to obtain various subsidies, but Li Yu'an did not want one, but all these indicators were given up.
For 40 years, Li Yu'an's family of eight has been crammed into a low-slung grass house, living a very poor life. But despite this, Li Yu'an never reached out to the organization once. And whenever someone advised him to improve his own conditions, he always said: "Think of the comrades who sacrificed, I am satisfied!" ”

After investigation and implementation, the military organs determined that he was Li Yu'an, the "martyr" who survived the "Battle of Songbone Peak" that year, and approved his son to join the army.

On August 9, 1990, General Yang Dezhi, former commander of the Chinese Volunteer Army, received Li Yu'an. Subsequently, he participated in the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Chinese Volunteer Army's participation in the Korean War in Korea, and was awarded the "National Flag Medal of the First Class" by the Central People's Committee of the DPRK.
In July 1991, Li Yu'an was invited to Beijing to attend the "All-Army 'August 1st' Veterans Forum", and before leaving, he said to his wife, daughter-in-law and granddaughter:
"I've been to Beijing several times, but I don't have any spare time, and this time I'll definitely buy you some beautiful clothes in Beijing and come back."

Later, after Li Yu'an's younger son was transferred from the army, he waited at home for the assignment. At that time, someone asked Li Yu'an why he didn't go to the relevant departments and arrange a good job for his son.
Li Yu'an replied with a slight complaint:
"It was because he was clamoring to become a soldier that year, forcing me to make a name for himself in the old troops, and this time I said that I could not cause any more trouble to the government."
