This song profoundly describes the difficult situation in which our army was seriously short of food and ammunition during the War of Resistance Against Japan. However, in the real years of the War of Resistance, the sources of grain, grass and guns of the Eighth Route Army were not as easy as the songs.
During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, due to a series of reasons such as the suppression of the Nationalist Government and the enemy's raids and disturbances, it was always difficult for the Logistics Supply of the Eighth Route Army to be guaranteed. In that era of extreme scarcity of materials, our army could not guarantee even the most basic life except for the lack of guns and ammunition.
For example, in the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the vegetable gold, ordinary personnel were 0.05 yuan per person per day, the lightly wounded and sick were 0.13 yuan, the seriously injured and sick were 0.23 yuan, the special seriously injured and sick were 0.4 yuan, and the school teachers and trainees were 0.1 yuan.
In addition, as far as the allowances for officers and men are concerned, the allowance for soldiers and squad leaders is 1.5 yuan per person per month; 2.5 yuan for platoon-level cadres; 3.5 yuan for company-level cadres; 4 yuan for battalion-level cadres; and 5 yuan for cadres at or above the brigade level.
Although in 1940 these corresponding subsidies were increased, they were still very low in general, and the lives of the soldiers could only be regarded as simple maintenance.
In 1943, my base area fell into unprecedented difficulties!
In order to lighten the burden on the masses and jointly tide over the famine, the Finance Committee of the Luyu Border Region of Jinji-Hebei province also made a decision to this end: From October this year, all the expenses of vegetables, allowances, and other expenses of all troops will be stopped, and each unit will raise and solve it on its own.
Therefore, it can be seen from this that the difficulties faced by our army at that time were serious! However, despite this, our army is still persisting in resisting Japan, and it has always maintained the fine tradition of our army -- not taking a needle and a thread from the masses!

Of course, although our army has always maintained strict organizational discipline, it has not been able to stop the enthusiasm of the masses of the people to donate money and materials and support our army.
When our army is facing difficulties, the common people often spontaneously organize themselves to send money and food to our army and do their best to help our army tide over the difficulties.
Therefore, it can be said that the reason why our army was able to defeat the Japanese aggressors and overthrow the Chiang family dynasty was inseparable from the vigorous support of the masses of the people.
However, in the face of this situation, the Eighth Route Army will also leave an IOU and agree to repay it in the future.
Therefore, it is not difficult for us to find that whether it was during the Period of the Red Army, the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, or the Period of the War of Liberation, our army laid a lot of IOUs for the common people, but in the end, very few people really took these IOUs to the government to cash in.
Many people don't even take it seriously at all, or "tear it up" on the spot, or treat it as a precious "cultural relic" and treasure it to future generations!
Finally, after a night of groping, the two finally came to the door of a fellow villager's house!
They knocked on the door and told their fellow villagers about their experiences, and then they warmly welcomed them to a meal and arranged for them to rest at home!
At that time, the two were penniless except for the weapons they were carrying, so they were a little embarrassed when they were ready to leave later!
But the fellow saw the thoughts of the two of them at a glance and said: "You fight for the world for our poor people, take your lives, eat a few days of food, you can rest assured to go!" ”
But these two soldiers shook their heads and said, "We have three major disciplines, eight points of attention, not to take a needle and a thread from the masses, and even less to eat the food of our fellow villagers and not to give money." Now we really don't have any money, but we will write you an IOU, and when the battle is over in the future, we will definitely come to the door to pay it back. ”
After the two finished speaking, they wrote an IOU to their fellow villagers:
"Eating at your house owes a piece of the ocean. Wang Wanquan, Liu Xishan!
The next year, the warrior named Wang Wanquan did come to the door to return a piece of the ocean, and when the fellow asked another warrior why he did not come, Wang Wanquan choked up and said, "He sacrificed!" Before he died, he also told me to return a piece of the ocean to my fellow countrymen..."
In the end, Wang Wanquan wanted to take away this IOU, but the fellow was a little reluctant: "I will write you a receipt, and I want to save this IOU." ”
Perhaps in the eyes of some people, this is an ordinary IOU, but it is more of a mirror that reflects the glorious traditions of our army; it is more like a monument reflecting the greatness of our people's army. Such a fish-like military-civilian feeling, whoever sees it will be moved!
Of course, there are actually many, many more stories like this!
In 1989, an old man named "Zhou Lianchi" in Hunan told his son on his deathbed: "I hid a secret in the family tree at home, if you have the opportunity, you go and solve this 'secret'!" ”
It is said that the Ancestors of the Zhou Family were famous local rich men, but for various reasons, the family tree of the Zhou Family was not preserved in their own home, but in the hands of a fellow villager named "Zhou Baoqiu". In the early 1980s, Zhou Baoqiu died, and Zhou Lianchi took back the family tree.

Finally, after a long period of research and exploration, Zhou Yanguang finally discovered the secrets contained in the family tree one day in 2003! It turned out that there was a mezzanine in the family tree, and inside the mezzanine was a yellowed IOU!
"Is this the secret my father said?" When Zhou Yanguang saw this IOU, his face was confused! But after careful reading, I found that this is not an ordinary IOU!

Through the payment of this IOU, it is not difficult for us to see that the person who made the IOU is not an ordinary person, but He Long, one of the "Ten Marshals" of New China, and our beloved Boss He!
This IOU was made in March 1945, near the end of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and on this IOU it reads:
"Borrowed 64 buckets of rice, 1 big fat pig, 420 pieces of silver ocean, 500 pieces of copper coins, and 10 pieces of small money from mr. Zhou Lianchi, a patriot; when the motherland is reunified, come to the central authorities."
At the place where the IOU is dropped, in addition to the signature of the "borrower" Marshal He Long, there is also his exclusive seal.
Realistically speaking, the amount recorded on the IOU, both then and now, is a considerable amount of money. Of course, if this IOU is true, then the government will definitely give it to cash, but if not, then it is a different matter!
On this IOU, although it is clearly written that the borrower is Mr. He and also has his own seal, after all, this matter has been too long, and the old man of Zhou Lianchi has also died, so it needs to be further determined.
In order to find out the truth of the matter, Zhou Yanguang spent a lot of time, but he never got his wish, and Zhou Yanguang was getting older and older, so he had to entrust the matter to his neighbor 'Wu Youyuan'.

Wu Youyuan did not dare to slacken off, in order to explore the authenticity of this IOU, he has visited many places. For example, the Sangzhi County He Long Memorial Hall, the Beijing Library, etc., but because this matter has passed for more than several decades, it has long been a matter of human beings, and there is no useful information at all.
Marshal He Long and Zhou Lianchi have long since died, although Marshal He Long's children are still there, but this is an IOU made during the war, and the children of General He may not know about it, and it is unlikely that Elder He is busy with military affairs.
Of course, in addition to the names of He Long and Zhou Lianchi on the IOU, there was also the seal of a person named "Chen Jusheng", but who this person really was, Wu Youyuan did not figure out.
As the saying goes: stepping on the iron shoes is nowhere to be found, and it takes no effort to get there! In 2014, on a business trip to Sichuan, Wu Youyuan happened to see a report about "Xiang Xuan" in the newspaper!
Xiang Xuan, born in March 1926 in Sangzhi County, Hunan Province, joined the army at the age of 7 and the Long March at the age of 9, was the youngest Red Army soldier at that time, and he had been following Marshal He Long since he joined the army. Therefore, Xiang Xuan is very likely to know the authenticity of this IOU!
After seeing this news, Wu Youyuan was very excited, and after handling the work matters, Wu Youyuan rushed to Xiang Xuan's house with an IOU.
After careful identification, Xiang Xuan determined that this IOU was indeed genuine! "Chen Jusheng" at the place where the money was dropped was the logistics director in charge of logistics in He Long's troops at that time.
Then Xiang Xuan said that although this IOU was genuine, it was not personally formulated by Mr. He himself, but was set up by his subordinates Liao Hansheng and He Bingyan when they were passing through Shaoyang City, handled by Chen Jusheng, in the name of He Long.

At the beginning of 2015, the IOU was once again appraised by the Hunan Collection Association, which was considered to be authentic.

Of course, whether it was Zhou Lianchi or his son Zhou Yanguang, they had the right to go to the local government to ask for this debt, but the old man of Zhou Lianchi never asked for it, and somehow hid it in the family tree, and did not explain the matter to his son until his death.
However, the old man confessed this matter to his son, not to let him go to the government for advice, but to treasure it well, or to give it to the museum for collection, and this is the real idea of the old man, so Zhou Yanguang did not take this IOU to the government for exchange later!
But the amount on the IOU also makes us wonder how much the 420 oceans of seventy years ago would be repaid today
According to the purchasing power of an ocean at that time, and taking into account inflation and other factors, it was finally determined that the 420 oceans were roughly equivalent to the current 50,000 yuan, and the value of one ocean was about 119 yuan.
But later, the relevant departments still returned all the money owed on the IOU!
