Tao Hanzhang was born in 1917 in Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province, the family is a scholarly Mendi, his grandfather has a high literary attainment, once served as the prefect of Lizhou, and then resigned from his hometown to establish a school, enlightened the people's wisdom, his father Tao Nanshan is also a literati of the new wave school at the end of the Qing Dynasty, good at poetry, ink painting and also understand doctors, Dongdu Japan when studying medicine with Mr. Lu Xun.
Tao Hanzhang went to Nanchang at the age of 13 to study at Hongdu Middle School, and after graduating from junior high school, his father unfortunately contracted an illness and died, and he was admitted to the Fenyang Military Academy from Rong. In 1933, he followed the anti-Japanese allied army led by Ji Hongchang and opposed Chiang Kai-shek's anti-Japanese resistance.
After the anti-Japanese allies were severely damaged and Ji Hongchang was killed, Tao Hanzhang returned to Nanchang, joined the Red Army, and joined our party in 1935.
"First meal free"

In 1944, after the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Brigade went to Yan'an, it accepted the task of large-scale production in Yan'an, and when grasping production, Tao Hanzhang, who was the chief of staff, proposed to Huang Yongsheng, the brigade commander who was serving as the Jin-Cha-Ji Field Brigade at that time, that we could open a hotel, and Huang Yongsheng approved it, and Tao Hanzhang took a part of the brigade's funds from the brigade headquarters and opened the Red Star Hotel. One day Chen Geng came to dinner, and after the meal, a soldier asked Chen Geng to settle the bill, and Chen Geng patted the table and joked: "If you don't want money, you want to die." "Finished talking and left. Tao Hanzhang told Huang Yongsheng that someone did not give money for eating, and Huang Yongsheng was very angry and said who? Tao Hanzhang replied that it was Chen Geng, and Huang Yongsheng was very happy, saying: "The first meal at the restaurant is free." Many generals heard about this matter and came one after another, and as a result, a month later, the "Red Star Restaurant" lost 700 oceans and closed down, which became the joke of the generals at that time.
Soldiers all hope that they can be commanders and command a million troops, Tao Hanzhang is no exception, when the strategic counteroffensive of the Liberation War began, Tao Hanzhang served as the chief of staff of the third column in the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region, and was preparing to show his grand plans, but he was destroyed by an "IOU" that ruined his dream, and it turned out that Luo Ruiqing found Tao Hanzhang, hoping to let him serve as the class teacher of the senior staff training class. Tao Hanzhang still wanted to be a commander at this time, so he asked Luo Ruiqing to go to Yang Chengwu for consultation, and after Yang Chengwu saw Luo Ruiqing, he didn't want to let Tao Hanzhang go, so he said that he would let Luo Ruiqing write an IOU, indicating that he would temporarily borrow Tao Hanzhang for half a year, but what Yang Chengwu did not expect was that Luo Ruiqing really wrote him an IOU, and Yang Chengwu could only secretly cry bitterly, saying that he was "cocooning himself."
Tao Hanzhang began his career as a military instructor, and combined with our army's decades of actual combat experience, he wrote a "Staff Work.", and Nie Rongzhen, commander of the North China Military Region, issued a commendation order to Tao Hanzhang and gave him a bonus of 300 yuan. At that time, the allowance of a cadre was only 5 yuan, which can be imagined as 300 yuan, which can be regarded as a huge amount of money.
In 1949, just after the peaceful liberation of Beiping, Tao Hanzhang had previously worked under Ye Jianying when he was a member of the North China Army, so he was temporarily transferred to the Beiping Municipal Military Management Commission. Once, when he was inspecting work in the city, when he went to the east of the city, he bumped into an "armed struggle," and dozens of Fu Zuoyi's soldiers wanted to enter the movie theater without buying tickets, so the soldiers in charge of maintaining public order in our army stopped them, but they still did not follow the rules and wanted to go in, and the people in the movie theater at this time were frightened, so Tao Hanzhang chose to first send people to arrest the people under his command, educate them, and then report to Premier Zhou.
Premier Zhou instructed him to invite the arrested military commander to dinner, because he had to do the work of the united front, Tao Hanzhang was a little confused at first, but he still obeyed Premier Zhou's instructions and invited the military commander to dinner.
In 1955, Tao Hanzhang was awarded the rank of major general.
In the 1970s, with the approval of Ye Jianying, General Tao Hanzhang served as vice president of the Military and Political University and other positions, working hard for the study of military works.
In 2010, General Tao Hanzhang died at the age of 93.
