Yang Chengwu was born on October 27, 1914, to an ordinary peasant family in Changting County, Fujian Province. After graduating from middle school, Yang Chengwu joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and initially served as the secretary of the Third Road Headquarters of the Red Army in western Fujian and the commander of the propaganda team. After the victory of the Red Army in northern Shaanxi in 1935, Yang Chengwu served as the political commissar of the Red First Division, and then studied at the Red Army University for a period of time, thus becoming the first batch of students of the Red Army University.
When the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out, Yang Chengwu's studies had not yet been completed, but at this time it was the time for the state to employ people, so the first batch of students, including Yang Chengwu, graduated early and then rushed to the anti-Japanese front. Subsequently, Yang Chengwu served as the commander of the Independent Regiment of the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army, and his main task was to carry out the anti-Japanese struggle in North China. In the famous Battle of Pingxingguan, Yang Chengwu's troops performed well. He led a regiment of troops deep behind the enemy, like a steel knife straight into the enemy's waist, cutting off the opponent's road transport line, and promoting the final victory of the Battle of Pingxingguan.
The independent regiment that can recruit good battles is also getting stronger and stronger, from more than 1,700 people at the beginning to more than 7,000 people, so the independent regiment was directly expanded into the independent 1st Division of the Eighth Route Army, and Yang Chengwu naturally served as the commander of the division. Because of the beautiful battle, Yang Chengwu's reputation in the military is also more and more crossed, and many people call him "Zhao Zilong".
In addition, in the Battle of Loess Ridge in 1939, Yang Chengwu's tactics were also very clever. He led his troops to sneak into a hidden position in the Taihang Mountains at night, and then caught the enemy by surprise without the enemy noticing, and the Japanese army was annihilated nearly 1,000 people in this battle, and even the commander Abe Norihide was killed. I don't know if you are familiar with Abe Norihide, but he was a senior general in Japan at that time, and his position had reached the rank of lieutenant general.
During the Liberation War, Yang Chengwu served as the commander of the Jizhong Column of the 1st Field Army of the Jin-Cha-Ji Military Region, as well as the second political commissar, the commander of the 3rd Corps, and the commander of the 20th Corps. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the commander of the Tianjin Garrison District and the deputy commander and commander of the Beijing-Tianjin Garrison District. Later, in the face of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Yang Chengwu served as the commander of the 20th Corps of the Chinese Volunteer Army, during which he fought a key battle, that is, the Battle of Wendenchuan. At that time, Yang Chengwu's troops were in a hurry to fight, but in such a dilemma, Yang Chengwu led his troops to defeat and win, and one of his troops spent 3 days to eliminate more than 17,000 enemy troops. On February 14, 2004, Yang Chengwu died of illness at the age of 90.

Zhao Zhizhen was born in 1921 in Yi County, Hebei Province. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, she joined the army and initially worked in the Political Department of the Independent 1st Division of the Eighth Route Army, and served as the director of the YiXian Women's Rescue Association. It was such a coincidence that the commander of the independent 1st Division of the Eighth Route Army at that time was Yang Chengwu, and the two were also related. It is said that the two have a very warm relationship and have been rated as "golden marriage couple". On April 17, 2018, Zhao Zhizhen passed away at the age of 98. She and Yang Chengwu have 2 sons and 3 daughters.

The second son, Yang Dongming, was admitted to the Beijing Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the National Defense University, and served as director of the Political Department of the Taiyuan Garrison District of the Shanxi Provincial Military Region, deputy director of the Political Department of the Beijing Garrison District, and deputy director of the Material and Fuel Department of the General Logistics Department.
