Parents pay attention, baby hip pain must be checked early!

Abnormal gait, unequal limb length, hip pain...

The parents are anxious, what is wrong with our baby?

In fact, this is the most common hip disease in children

Developmental hip dysplasia

Parents pay attention, baby hip pain must be checked early!

It is a lesion in which the structure of the hip joint is abnormal at birth and deteriorates during postnatal development, including from hip instability to hip dislocation.

Early diagnosis and early intervention can avoid and reduce disability rates.

Delayed diagnosis of developmental hip dysplasia can lead to degenerative hip disease, so early diagnosis and treatment is essential.

Imaging diagnostic methods are preferred

No special preparation is required before the hip scan, infants and young children are generally examined within 6 months of birth, for infants within 6 months, the hip joint is mainly composed of cartilage, the femoral head has not been ossified, ultrasound is a significant advantage for this immature hip examination, so it is the preferred imaging diagnosis method for early developmental hip dysplasia. X-rays are required for more than 6 months.

Indications for the use of ultrasound to examine the hip joint in infants

Parents pay attention, baby hip pain must be checked early!

(1) There are abnormal or suspicious findings in the hip joint on physical examination or imaging examination, including asymmetry of femoral streaks, asymmetry of hip striae, limited hip abduction test, unequal length of lower limbs, knee joints not in the same plane, joint bouncing, etc.;

(6) Monitor patients with DDH treated with Pavlik braces or other fixation devices.

Newborn hip ultrasound screening has been popularized in developed countries such as Europe and the United States, as well as in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai in China, and is a mandatory item in the children's health care manual.
