What was Huang Yongsheng's later life like? He made great contributions to his hometown and fulfilled his wish for his old age on the day of his death

China in the last century was an era of war and chaos, but also an era of talents. As the saying goes, "heroes are created in a chaotic world", and it is precisely at that time when the war is not stopping that a batch of heroes who save the nation from water and fire have emerged. With their own shoulders, they have supported the motherland and the people's heavens and led us to the happy life we have now. The founding general Huang Yongsheng was such a general, but in his later years, because he did something wrong, it was regrettable.

Huang Yongsheng, born in 1910 in Xianning, Hubei Province, came to a relatively poor family. At the age of 16, he participated in the Autumn Harvest Uprising in Hubei, and was later incorporated into the First Division of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army along with the rebel army. In the same year, he joined the Communist Party.

During the agrarian revolution, Huang Yongsheng served as a platoon leader, company commander and regimental commander in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and in 1932, he served as the commander of the Red 34th Division. Huang Yongsheng seems to be born for fighting, although he only studied private school for two years when he was a child, and did not learn any military knowledge, but in every battle, he can learn combat experience from it, and quickly grow up to become a qualified general.

In 1933, he served as the regimental commander of the 3rd Regiment of the 1st Red Division, participated in the anti-"encirclement and suppression" struggle in the central revolutionary base areas, and then participated in the Long March. After the Red Army arrived in northern Shaanxi, Huang Yongsheng served as the commander of the Red 2nd Division.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Huang Yongsheng served as the regimental commander of the 685th Regiment of the 343rd Brigade of the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army. During the Liberation War, Huang Yongsheng served as the commander of the 8th Column of the Northeast Field Army and the commander of the 14th and 13th Corps of the Fourth Field Army, leading the troops to participate in the Liaoshen and Pingjin Campaigns, as well as the Liberation of Guangxi Campaign.

After the founding of New China, in 1955, Huang Yongsheng was awarded the rank of founding general and served as the commander of the Guangzhou Military Region, responsible for presiding over military and political work.

Unfortunately, during that special period in history, he was involved in a conspiracy and was suspended in 1971. In 1981, after consideration by the superior leaders, Huang Yongsheng's previous important contributions to our army, and Huang Yongsheng's now 71-year-old age, allowed Huang Yongsheng to be released on medical parole and placed him in Qingdao to spend his old age.

After coming to Qingdao, Huang Yongsheng was very satisfied with the housing arranged by the government, and there was a living allowance of 100 yuan per month. The general's later life was very simple, coarse tea and light rice, and occasionally there would be loach and eels that he particularly liked to relieve his hunger.

In 1983, Huang Yongsheng was diagnosed with liver cancer, but after the hospital's efforts to treat him, he died. In Huang Yongsheng's later years, his greatest wish was to wear a military uniform again, so when he died, he wore a Type 55 military uniform, and his children brought his ashes back to their hometown and buried them in the courtyard of the 131 Project.

This 131 project was a project that the general presided over before his death, and in order to prepare for anti-aggression, General Huang spent two years and painstaking efforts to finally complete it, but the 131 project after completion also lost its original significance. Now the 131 Project is fully open to the public and has become a famous local attraction. General Huang's hometown people once said: This is the greatest contribution that the general has made to his hometown.

Throughout Huang Yongsheng's life, he became famous at a young age, made great contributions to the motherland and the people, and spilled his blood for the construction of New China, although he did wrong things in his later years, he still could not erase his previous achievements, and he was still the founding hero of New China.
