Adoption of the new system is too low, and Apple is pushing users to upgrade to iOS 15

IT House January 14 news, according to MacRumors reported that Apple encourages users who are still running iOS 14 to update to iOS 15, which is contrary to the previous policy that allowed iOS 14 users to choose not to install iOS 15 updates.

Adoption of the new system is too low, and Apple is pushing users to upgrade to iOS 15

IT House learned that at the time of the release of iOS 15, Apple said that the iOS system provided "a choice between two software update releases" and promised to provide security updates for those who choose to continue using iOS 14.

iOS now offers a choice of two system update versions in settings. Users can upgrade to the latest version after iOS 15 is released to get new features and full security updates, or continue to use iOS 14 and still get important security updates until they are ready to upgrade to the next major release (iOS 15).

In previous releases, iOS updates were prominently located in front of the Software Update section of the Settings app, but when iOS 15 was just launched, this reminder was a footnote at the bottom of the Software Update interface on iOS 14 devices and was easy to avoid.

Apple's patience with users who don't use iOS 15 seems to have diminished over the past few months and is pushing for iOS 14 user updates. On devices running iOS 14, the iOS 15 update is no longer a footnote at the bottom of the Software Update section, and Apple has stopped releasing iOS 14 security updates.

MacRumors noted that Apple previously had a clear option for users to stay in iOS 14 and receive updates, but that seems to have been eliminated with the launch of iOS 15.2. In the iOS 15.2.1 update released yesterday, Apple did not reintroduce the retention option for iOS 14, which should be a clear signal that Apple now wants people to upgrade. iPhone users who want the latest security must now update to iOS 15.

For example, Apple released the iOS 14.8.1 security update in October 2021. For iPhones that are still running iOS 14.8 systems, the iOS 14.8.1 update will no longer be available, and Apple only offers iOS 15.2.1 as an installation option.

iOS 15 is available on all devices capable of running iOS 14, and unencumbering the option to keep iOS 14 may prompt users to upgrade. Currently, 72% of devices launched in the past four years have iOS 15 installed, which is significantly lower than the system adoption rate of previous iOS versions.
